You'll be using a template? As long as you build the paper template first it'll be alot easier to visualize the final product. Good luck! If you're not in any cosplay groups, I highly recommend Evil Ted's Foam Fanatics. Everyone there is insanely helpful and supportive.

im confused how u got the measurements for everything cuz i watched here 11:00 to the end of thats part and it still made no sense to me how u got the measurements

thats my bad, when i started this series it was less a tutorial and more of a "look what i made" kind of thing, and my commentary was mostly just me talking off the cuff. so i missed alot of details. the grid pattern technique i use for scaling is mostly for free-handing my templates (you can see me use it more in the next couple episodes after this one). but i used it as reference here to get an idea of how big the template needed to be. so for example, with everything scaled with the grid, i could tell that the chest armor was a hair under 2ftx2ft tall and wide. the template i got for this chest piece came with a 3d model, and a pdf of the template that matched the 3d models default size. so with knowing that my chest needed to be a hair under 2ft high and 2ft wide, i could adjust the scaling of the 3d model until it fit within that range. and the percentage i had to scale the model would in turn be how much i needed to adjust the pdf scale. I should also note, that this was only possible because the pdf came as a giant page with all the template pieces on. if it came as individual pages, id be crap out of luck on scaling it at all. long story short though, in the end i didnt have to adjust the scaling at all. several episodes later, i believe, i ended up trimming the chest way down, to what would have been the default sizing. The template did come with alot of extra info for scaling, and assembly instructions, but i didnt want to cover too much of that, considering it was someone elses template, and they have their own channel covering their templates. (Crawdaddy Cosplay is the name, i believe.)

Was the template you bought the Mark X tacticus from Craw daddy?? I just bought it and the chest template is so fucked up, they spaced the parts between multiple pages but they don’t line up when you cut them out

Yeah. I think it's a pinter thing, but I'm not 100 sure. That's why I had that issue with the shoulder that I had to rework. Somethings wonky there.

The template for the chest was from crawdaddy cosplay. But I freehanded the rest. The foam is EVA craft foam, you can buy it at your local craft store, Micheals and Hobby Lobby both sells it.

what thickness did you use on the foam?

Throughout the build, the thicknesses vary. but for the majority of the base construction, I used 10mm. the pieces being so big, it helped make everything a little more sturdy.

I didn't tally up my total cost, but if I were to guess, I'd say it ran around $750ish by the end. Plasti-dip and paint made up at least 1/4 of that.

The chest was partially based on a template by crawdaddy cosplay on etsy. (He does have full suit templates though.) But everything after was freehand. I was going to save my templates from the freehand process, but there were so many modifications and adjustments during the build process that the templates were insanely different from the final product.

lol, it'd help for sure. My Terminator Chaplain suit is killer to walk around in for more than 2hrs. If you can't run around in it all day fighting Xenos, then whats the point?
