I remember back in the 90's picking up a box of 30-06 shells loaded with a normal powder charge and a .223 bullet in a sabot, they didnt perform particularly well since it was next to impossible to hit anything with them because they would start tumbling as soon as they left the barrel, you could tell because they made this terrifying buzzing noise, always compared it to a pissed off bee if it were the size of a cat, in closing hybrid rounds are fun just rarely useful for anything other than pure entertainment. 👍

When I worked at Cigar City Gun Club, a skeet & trap field, in the early 70s, it was commonly known that if you leave the wad out of a shell so that the powder and shot mix you can blow up your gun. I never saw that happen but I did see a nice break-action trap gun blow up from a triple-loaded shell, though. I wonder what would happen if you filled a shell with acetylene? C4 might work!

For the gun to explode you need to put a 308 bullet that is way over charged meaning it has to be putting out over 100,000psi over energy. That's how you can blow the gun. Remember what happened to Scott's 50bmg when he shot a slap round at a fire hydrant and caused the gun to explode? Because it was a super spicy round. Normal operating pressures for a 50bmg is 55,000psi the round that gave Scott a near death experience was putting out more than 180,000psi of energy.
