It's crazy that some people get into this hobby and are led to think from the start that clickies are taboo and don't belong on serious keyboards. But the real secret with why clicky gang gets no representation in custom MX boards is 'cause we all know the best clicks are in vintage and non-MX boards. -Guy who daily drove BOX Navies and then moved to a Unicomp

Montereys, Alps, Futabas... I'll never understand why modern keyboard enthusiasts hate clickies. Sure, MX Blue and its knockoffs sound and feel like shit (minus BOX switches of course), but there's an entire world of switches out there that are far better than your Frankenswitches or whatever.

I actually have some Kailh box whites that sounds have decent. I wouldn't say I enjoy them, but I think you really have to try different clickies. Oetemu and MX Blue give the category a bad rep. I still prefer the sound of good linears and good tactiles over a good clicky, but they aren't necessarily bad by any stretch of the imagination.

I think a lot of people don’t like clickies because all they’ve tried it with are these dense, expensive, keyboards with foam, tape mod, gasket mount and everything. I personally think clickies sound the best with a roomy plastic case that is sandwich or tray mounted and with an alu plate.

Here here The community is like...80% linear + flex, even tactile gang tends to follow all the same goals only with a slightly different lube. Which case would you reccomend to go with the SA keycaps and Box Navy's?

@@deesevrin8570 aside from vintage chassis there is the Akko MOD001 which is pretty hollow, also go for kits with plastic shells which amplify the sound better than aluminium ones

@@iwantcookiesplz9444 basically just cases with a lot of space in them which echo back the sound of clickies and make them sound fuller. You can look up one of Chyrosran22's many blue alps videos and compare them to Taeha's 2 custom blue alps builds to see the differences for yourself

@@Epsi1ong Got any other modern hotswappable boards that are good with the box thick clicks? I just put box jades into my keychron Q1, and they're amazing. My left shift is also really deep sounding for some reason, and I think the deep thock makes the jade sound really nice. Got ABS MT3 keycaps on them btw.

Since you actually like experimenting, try this. Take a fairly muted board - like a portico or GMMK - and put some clickies in it. But, lube the click bar with 207g2 or XHT-BDZ. The thicker lube on the click bar will lower the pitch of the click and the muted boards will make the switches really sound sweet!!!

if you actually want the switches to sound as good as possible, its important to lube the click bar especially because thats where most of the rackety thin sound comes from. Plus it makes the switch way more satisfying to use.

@@yeahthatsright33 it really doesnt it just makes it smoother. Living clicky switches only loses the click on click jacket switches. But because box navy's and jades and bronzes for example all use a metal bar, putting some lube in the metal bar wont decrease the click at all. It will make the click slightly less harsh but imo the feel is way better vs stock click bar switches

Box navies are more of a typist switch than gaming one from my experience. Tactile bump is outrageously good. Box Navies with thicker caps are truly end game for clicky mx build. It is especially visible when you compare them against blues with cheapest ABS caps possible like on prebuilt boards (for example g512 SE with blues). If you want more click then you need to go buckling spring or find ALPS keeb.

My fiance actually uses a Tokyo60 with Box Navies as his daily driver and whilst I frequently have to remind myself that I love him for who he is, including all of his flaws, I genuinely got used to the sound pretty quick and now it only annoys me on occasion. He on the other hand loves using that keyboard (coming from a blackwidow v2 with Razer's own green switches and a spacebar stabilizer that fell out, and they refuse to do anything to help with) as his daily driver, and despite his long-time migraine disorder, is absolutely in love with his sin and swears the clicky bois do not induce any of his migraines.

my daily is a tofu96 with a brass plate and box navys lightly lubed with 105, PE foam between the plate and pcb, sorbothane at the bottom with a layer of copy paper between the sorbothane and pcb, all topped off with domikey SA caps, and I think if you tried it you'd probably learn to appreciate clickys even more than what this board did for you. keycults are a great chassis but gasket mount isn't the way to go with clickys imo it's more of a tock than a thock, basically. with all the sound deadening and as rigid as the chassis and plate are it's pretty much just the switch noise with a bump to the midrange frequencies, no reverb from the chassis whatsoever. it's quieter than a lot of membrane boards I've used due to the lack of rattle, but is absolutely uncompromising in it's tactility.
