A very good introduction to programming sound. "Making the Most..." these episodes were repeated up and including 1986.

This and the episode on computer graphics were my two favourite episodes. I was half-way through high school, and had a VIC-20 at the time, I think.

That rtrained obot arm is the best part of this video, but i also liked how that smart guy demonstrated how to play music on a computer, many sound effects remainds me of sega master system games, no wonder concidering both computers from that era and the master system contains the PSG soundchip.

I remember messing about with the sound command on my Amstrad CPC464 as a kid and scaring my hippy neighbors with a police siren noise who were convinced they were getting raided :D

Just about pre-MIDI by the looks of that data cable from the keyboard to the computer!

round about the middle of the program from 07:00 he's trying to demonstrate a very early version of what became MIDI (musical instrument digital interface)with is totally standard these days..the keyboard is just a midi controller ..this all exists in every music software program(DAW) today (cubase, logic, nuendo, pro tools, etc )

4 was in fact not Middle C. On a BBC Micro, 53 was middle C. 4 wasn't actually a note (in equal tempered pitch), each semitone you went up by 4, so 5 would have been a note, 1 was a note, and, in fact, 0 was a note all by itself). 5 would represent the C below Middle C, 53 middle C, 101 the C above, 149 the C above, 197 the C above, 245 the C above.

It's from the same time, in fact. According to Wikipedia, work on the developing standard was publicly announced in October 1982 (by one Robert Moog), and the standard itself published in August 1983.
