Making The Music Box World Map - From Wario Land 3 - Using Polymer Clay

Today we are going to create the Music Box World from Wario Land 3! This has to be my favorite clay creation that I've created in a long time! I think the dome really brings it all together nicely. The idea of a whole world being inside of a tiny music box is such an amazing idea. I had a leftover snowglobe that I never made anything in so luckily this worked perfectly for the dome on this world. I tried out a new technique for the plants on this one, and I think it turned out pretty great! What do you think of it? I hope you all enjoyed this clay tutorial! Wario Land 3 is pretty cool. It's kinda like a pseudo-Metroidvania. You get upgrades and power ups, and revisit areas, with those new powers, but all the levels are separate from each other. Also you don't take damage, which is interesting.

The river DOES actually continue behind the bridge in the game. Also, there's much more to the island than what you can see on the box art. A lot of which actually gets created or changed by the player's actions over the course of the game. There's a desert, a big city, a huge canyon, a tall tower, a swamp, a castle, a frozen section of the ocean, complete with iceberg, a colossal gaping hole in the ground (which is formed after the big boulder on top of the volcano is flung off during an eruption that you caused), and much more. There's so much to this map, which is really impressive for a gameboy game. You should really give it a play some time!

You did a fantastic job on this! Though I might recommend revisiting this in the future as a bigger project as the Wario Land 3 map has more to it all around the mountain that is in the game itself.

In the game you can see the details behind the volcano (the whole map is divided in to north, east, south, and west) but I don't blame you for not wanting to get that detailed.

Awesome job! Your idea for the grass texture was very cool, btw! I've never played Wario Land 3 myself, but I've been meaning to check it out. (Fun fact: the Music Box would make a cameo in WarioWare Twisted, implying Wario took it back home with him.) I probably would've made the same mistake if I was trying to make those diamonds, lol.

What I like is how the Music Box Island looks like a physical model on the boxart, so this is right up my alley! Hopefully, you'll eventually make a revised version that includes the other areas from the games.

That's what I was going for :). It was tough to decide between the two map designs, but overall I liked this one more.

If you had play the game, you would have realized that the island map is sectioned into four parts for every compass direction. The one you did is the north part of the island and the others didn't fit in because you made the pieces too big, leaving no room for the others. Check how the island map is in-game for all the details that you missed: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gbc/256520-wario-land-3/map/4107-world-map Hope you redo this to get it right and if you don't think you can get all the details in, get a bigger snowglobe to do a bigger scale. Even if it requires more clay, it's easier to do details when you do bigger pieces so think about doing them as "bigatures" like they have done for The Lord of the Rings movies but in clay.

Was my entry to the Wario Land series and it became my favorite for the Gameboy Color. Had with no other game such a long playtime and it never got boring ^_^

I'm not sure if you ever part with these wonderful creations, but I'm the owner of the world's largest Wario collection. It is five tiered and has been recognized by the National Video Game Museum. I dunno why it took me so long to get a notification of this video, but hey! It's here! My favorite map of the Wario Land games! Also, that black dome is interesting... It's a big, colorless forest! There's a Golf Course game in there I think, but it's completely devoid of color. However, you do find a lot of colored crayons that will color that place back to life! I can also see the other sides of the island being a pain to model, to be completely honest.

Yeah, putting in every side would make the thing very cluttered... or at the very least require a large base. The perspective is kinda skewed, so I don't really see a way of doing it without taking a few liberties.

@@Kerobyxclay I guess the only way to do it is to push them inwards, into their own quadrant, as well as scale them down a bit. But that would require quite a bit of experimentation and planning on paper and stuff. But don't worry, the fact you made that music box (with the dome and the wind-up key and all) is a delight by itself 😁
