I’d feel a lot better about myself if my therapist had attachment issues too.

Never thought about it from the psychiatrist/therapist's perspective 😂 I think 50% of the reason I'd no-call-no-show appointments when I was younger was we were getting too close to subjects I wasn't ready to open up about and I realized there was no way to avoid it if we were going to keep making progress, so either I keep up a charade of fake progress or I drop out. 50% of the time it was because I did open up but I felt too dysregulated at the end of the appointment and didn't want to face being re-traumatized. Only once it was because the psych was kind of a jerk. But I found a therapy practice that focuses on grounding and re-regulating especially at the end of each appointment and combined with having more maturity/motivation to change I feel more comfortable opening up now, so I haven't no-call-no-showed since then. An individual's journey in the psych system can be very complex with a lot of mis-starts. You can be doing everything right and the person is just not ready to "go" there.

Dr. Preston, what would you tell a person, as a doctor, that strongly believe that they have the right to take their own life since they never asked to be in the world and are making the best decision to stop suffering?

Haha, this is hilarious, and so beautifully toxic. I think though, maybe, therapists are supposed to have boundaries or something? Oh my god, I'm so sorry I didn't mean it, I know you hate walls. You know I would never mean to hurt you. Why can't we all just love each other?

@@thebeatles9this is obviously a huge stretch, but one of my doctors (won’t say which to throw them under the bus) occasionally tells me a little bit about the stresses of the VA and it helps me to understand when things go slowly or don’t happen at all, that my doctor is really trying and really cares but is running into roadblocks beyond their control. It gives me reassurance that they are still trying and isn’t just “Ope, I submitted the consult, it’s denied. Follow up in six months” like a lot of my other doctors do.
