You know, the 'pear of anguish' is excellent when you need to work with pvc tubing and flex tubing (flexible conduit). Those two t shaped pieces you milled were pretty similar. You could benefit from a stop tool that stays in place so you can place your parts against it in the vice. So that way you have repeatability in the left and right directions. If you can place the part in the vise the same, you can set zeros and go to the same zeros. I don’t mean to patronize you if you already know this. I’ve notice when you mill a slot, you do it with the endmill at full depth. If this is working out for you that may be alright. You just may have trouble with chips clearing out as you mill.

Trepanning saw. You should make one and a silver insert and small hammer that would have been used to cover the hole made in the skull and stayed in place by having teeth on the edges that dug into the bone as you hammered it in. This wasn't some quakery tool either since wit allowed for the removal of fractured bone and blood clots in the area after a blow to the head and even had a success rate that was reasonable and much better than doing nothing. Archeologists have found human remains all the way back to the stone age that had healed skulls from the procedure, although the pre-bronze age ones did not use the silver plug that was later used to protect the hole.
