I really appreciate your irreverent and self-deprecating style. So many of us don't reference expert's advice to plain common sense.

Hi! Excellent video. I have a question. I have a fig tree that I planted last year. It's 1 year old now and it's summer in California. I feel like I should have cut the tree to create a low scaffold right when I planted the tree during its dormant state last winter. Would it be too late to do it now to create a smaller stockier tree?

I would say its too late now and better to wait for next year. When we scafold we need a very enthusiastic response and this is posible because the plants energy is still in the roots. But now and as we get in to spring, that energy is leaving the roots and going in to the plant. So if we prune now, it will not have that strength as we would be cutting it away. Its still early spring but Fig does seemn to start earlier too. I have a new vid talinng about some of the same points, if your trunk is still fairly thin then it is nothing to worry about to wait till next year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/baS2iZtpmMyFrbMsi=a08uoi6JQJUw0O5h

Hey Alex, Hope all is going well. Question, How do you know when to prune your trees? Is there a certain time for different trees?
@GreenthumbsGarden Жыл бұрын
Hey Badgers! For deciduous trees like this one, you want to be pruning mid-summer and only prune in winter for anything diseased, dead, or disorientated. The only other time we prune in winter is for young fruit tree saplings where we give them a severe scaffold prune about knee high if planted in the ground, this encouraged rapid growth in spring and low fruiting branches. Citrus trees are very different and in short, the less pruning the better.

is there somone shouting in the background?

🤣 probably, timestamp it so I can listen 👂. This is Spain, there's always someone shouting somewhere... That's urban life for you... 🤣😂 When we moved here last August... Took me ages to get used to the noise, especially at night. "Get used to" is the wrong word... Live with is more accurate 😅
