A game can have solid gameplay mechanics, great visuals but with shitty sounds and a half arsed soundtrack the engagement drops off fast. Thanks for creating these awesome vids and I excitedly await your next upload.

To me, it's the difference between kids, spaceships, and aliens in ENDER'S GAME vs kids, spaceships, and aliens in MACROSS (Robotech) anime/manga. Same science-themes, totally different approach. I mean, one begins "Space... real space, for the Navy vessel to explore" and the other begins "Once upon a time, in a kingdom far, far away".

@@thenetgamer2 highly compressed gas would become liquid. Rapid decompression during detonation in the vacuum of space would result in the liquid gas freezing. I think. *edit- and if there *was* a sound wave formed, it would only be heard from within the explosion radius. Poor microphone!😬

Hey Marshall! I have a suggestion you could have used for the tail :) It's similar to how you used the guitar. There was a video on youtube regarding the sound design for the weird whale spaceship in one of the Marvel Avengers movies. In that video they used a down tuned guitar with moderate distortion or overdrive and then hit the strings with a screwdriver. The metallic properties of the screwdriver helped form some really cool harmonics with the strings itself, also I'd like to point out that string gauges also play a big role in how 'thicc' your sound will be, as such, thicker gauges = thicker sound. Also running the sample through a granular synthesizer can give you interesting sounds too! I've used it in a couple of student projects and I was really pleased with the results :)

@galacticboy2009

Actually, there are sounds in space my dude, when it comes to explosions. Those explosions throw gas and particles in every direction, which would then hit the walls of the ship you're in, (as long as you aren't so far away that the gasses and particles don't reach you) which would then vibrate the air in your capsule, which you'd then hear. Sorry you just can't win at this xD
@whut9245
@whut9245 5 жыл бұрын
Particles hitting the ship you are in is not how sound is produced. Sound is produced by air particles contracting and condensing when pushed by particles of high kinetic energy. Particles hitting a ship in the mostly vacuum of space wouldn't produce any sound and the amount of particles hitting your ship wouldn't even have an effect due to how fast they displayed milliseconds after the explosion
@SeraphimFelis

Btw your videos are really good, I've watched all of them and the effort that goes into them doesn't go amiss, trust me, I've been a subscriber since like the 4th one

Your sound, which is actually closer to the sound from the movie, is way better than their sound. Awesome work!

I like the thermal imploder from SWBF 2015. Much better in my opinion.

The most distinctive part I'd argue is actually how when it detonates (during the "silence" part) it blocks out other sounds in the movie and the in-game appearances

There IS sound in space. There’s just no medium in which it can travel.

Yes and no... the *vibrations* that would produce sound if they had a transmission medium exist in space.

I don't mean this as a jab, but I have always been under the impression that sound by its very definition is vibrations travelling through a medium. By what definition of sounds do you claim "there IS sound in space"?

This was awesome to see how much work goes into creating a "simple" sound. Great job! Subbed!

Just to address the no sound in space. I thought the ships in star wars simulate the sounds going on so the pilot can fly better?

To me the twang sounds a bit like when you time stretch a sound too much and it gets that weird metallic echo.

I remember playing that seismic charge scene over and over on my PC because I had a subwoofer and it was way better than anything coming out of my TV. It was awesome. Your’s was too!
