A great video tons of great information. I guess we never get to stop doing homework. I am excited another plan has come together. Best of luck 🤞 and thanks so much for sharing. I am always excited to see the smiles of success.

Hello Holly & Ray! Thanks for your great videos! I’d like to understand more about the BMS and balancing. Can you elaborate on your design? - specifically, did you included an external BMS or some sort of balancing method? I believe KiloVault HLX+ don’t require an external BMS, but I’m wondering how the batteries (let’s say 4 batteries in a parallel bank) can be kept in balance. I assume it’s an eventuality that drop-in style batteries (each with independent BMS) will drift and become unbalanced. No? Possibly the internal BMS communication to adjacent bank batteries is completely sufficient. Could you elaborate please? Thanks! And happy sailing!

Hi, thanks for watching! :) The Kilovault HLX+ like the ones we installed have CAN bus communication so their built in BMS’s can communicate with each other to improve charging and discharging across the entire bank.

Thanks for the video, I am installing two the 2400s now and am curious how you managed to utilize the CANbus external coms. thank you!

We're still waiting on Killvault to issue the firmware updates for that.

Hi Gang! Thanks for the video. I'm curious why BattleBorn batteries didn't make the list? Very excited to see how this all works out. Especially, Holly, if you are going induction in the kitchen. That seems like a huge win getting rid gas inside. Thanks!

Hey Geoff, thanks for watching! BattleBorn does not yet have external communication capabilities (although we’ve heard they’re coming out with it), as required by ABYC. They also do not have UL 1973 certification. Additionally, after 3 attempts, their tech support never replied to us…🥴 We’re looking forward to ironing out the galley details- hoping to decrease our propane usage for sure🤞🏼

You didn't mention how many Ah of batteries you are getting. I would recommend 2000(+) as it will allow you to run your A/C overnight easily, plus you will forgo having to turn off major appliances. It's easier to just do one big installation and be done with it, than open the boat up again to add more batteries and wiring, later. Are you getting an induction oven? Another alternative is just buying two portable induction cook tops and an air fryer. Store them in the cabinet, where the oven used to be and when they aren't in use, you have more counter space. I'm partial to the glass bowl type of air fryers, as they give you more volume, especially with the extension ring added. I've roasted 7 pound chickens and ribeye roasts in ours with no problem, plus you can visually monitor them because of the glass bowl. They also use about 30-40% of the power of an oven and the heat is almost instant by comparison. We bought ours at Costco 14 years ago it is still working flawlessly. Amazon sells them currently.

We’re not planning to make too many changes to our lifestyle. We almost never run our AC so that’s a very low priority for us! We’re still ironing out the final details but will share the specifics when we do. At the moment I’m planning on keeping the gas stovetop but getting a portable induction cooktop as well. I’d love to get rid of the microwave and make that space storage because we never use it anyway, get rid of the oven and get an induction oven/air fryer combo… what brand is your air fryer?

@@HollyandRay The A/C is as much about eliminating mildew as cooling/heating. A dry boat means not having everything smelling musty and having to launder clothes and linens, purely because of mildew on them. Our air fryer is a Sharper Image Super Wave. Amazon still sell them and there are multiple other brands selling the same design as well. If you buy it, make sure to get the metal extension ring. These "ovens" cook hotter than a lot of the cooking times suggest and you'll need the ring to increase the distance of the heating element from the food, especially whole chicken. Our favourite foods to cook in it are whole chickens, chicken wings, meat balls, potato wedges, ribeye roasts and baked potatoes.

Get about 1000 amps of batteries and about 2000 watts of solar minimum.
