My nautiech has the same sort of rigging. Some say the topping lift can work as a back stay. It is a grey area and one i want to solve as well.
@HollyandRay
@HollyandRay Күн бұрын
Yes, we’ve heard the same about the topping lift, but we’re planning to add running back stays to our rig once we get to New Zealand!

How exhausted were you? Did someone stay awake at all times even in the middle of nowhere?
@HollyandRay

Yes someone stayed awake for the entire journey! One of us would sleep while the other kept watch, we did 5hrs on, 5hrs off.

@@HollyandRay when my wife and I crossed the Atlantic, the hardest part was the lack of sleep.

Totally! That’s something most people underestimate the impact of- getting on some sort of sleep schedule is key.

I am contemplating crossing the Pacific. How do you compare the south Pacific with the Caribbean? I am not interested in a circumnavigation. I would either sell.the boat in Australia or only go as far as Tahiti and then hawaii and then north America.
@HollyandRay
@HollyandRay 4 күн бұрын
The Caribbean is much easier/more leisurely cruising. The South Pacific has been very challenging, even with our years of experience!

We’ve only been to French Polynesia, so we can’t judge all of the South Pacific yet- but so far I’d say French Poly is not worth the trouble.

@3:34 Ray, I'm looking to purchase a Lagoon 52 that has a similar solar arch like Sabado. It's a cool spot for a diving board too. Does it support you guys or would it be best to put something, self supporting, over the solar before jumping?
@HollyandRay
@HollyandRay 5 күн бұрын
Our solar arch is definitely not built to walk on. I'm not saying it wouldn't hold a person but the panels definitely wouldn't!

@2:20 Holly, can you trim the edges of those or would excess ink bleed out? What a cool product!
@HollyandRay
@HollyandRay 6 күн бұрын
Hmmm, I haven’t tried trimming them! I’ll snip an old one later and report back- the sun fades the ones we have in the saloon so I replace them every once in a while. It’s so fun being able to print updated ones!

French Polynesia has strict environmental laws, we cannot get any termite specific poison unless we haul the boat out of the water and hire a professional. Our current plan is to keep a close eye on everything and incorporate a professional fumigation during our next haulout in New Zealand unless we see a reason to do one sooner here in FP!
