I use the knee pads (from Trophy line)instead of the foam pad to avoid the hump on the Mission. Awesome video, very good information.

Just saw your video. I have been doing the same thing for 2 years with a few differences. I try to make I carry in have a dual purpose. 1-I didn't cut all the way through the pad, I just hollowed it out so there would be no chance of metal bumping me in the back. 2-I used two paracord survival bracelets from the dollar store to attach the pad to the platform, had to cut 2 holes to attach the bracelets. That way the pad is always attached to my stand until I'm in the tree. No fiddle factor with having to wrap an extra strap around to hold it. 3-I use 2 camo bungee cords to hold 4 carbon climbing sticks to the platform. Holds them tight with no movement. When I set the platform, I just unclip the bracelets to remove the pad and then reclip them so they remain on the pad. Then use the bungee cord around the tree and hook it in to the each of the bracelets. If it is a big tree you can use the 2nd bungee cord. I also found that the stand and with 4 carbon sticks is light enough that you don't need backpack straps. I just use one piece of nylon strap attached at one point at the top and two points at the bottom. I use a very small fanny pack for the rest of my gear other than my saddle. The fanny pack actually helps support the weight of the pack while carrying. Generally, I bungee that around the tree above the pad right in front of me so I have access to all my stuff. Works great. No extra bulk pack and nothing is floppy because the bungees hold everything tight. Sometimes I use the extra bungee to strap the carry strap to the bottom of the platform so there is no movement. Or you can just pull it up through the platform and tuck it next to the tree. The pad really helps with comfort and not having to wear knee pads while walking to your stand. Since I'm not a "spring chicken" anymore, going light weight and efficient has allowed me to keep hunting.

I let the hump sit in the small of my back, but I still want to do something similar, nicely done

Greg actually 3 uses ... pad for carrying, knee pad on tree and if u decide to hunt on the ground u can strap the platform to the tree and place the pad on top as a seat up against the tree ...nice video

I decided to buy the mission this year for my all day sits. I wanted to rig like you have but the only issue is finding the foam cushion you used. It’s no longer being sold. And finding something similar to it has been difficult. Anyways, thanks for these tips. This will help me for those days I want to bring a backpack but want to sit all day.

Great idea. Only concern I see is that pad could be really hot/sweaty because there is no airflow against the back.

A possibility but after wearing a pack in this afternoon I assure you it CANNOT be any worse than a normal backpack!! Have I mentioned that I’m just not a backpack guy? 😂

Have you done a comparison of the Mission to the new TROPHYLINE EDP? I’m sold on Mission but I would like your opinion on the new . I’m a big guy with size 16 feet. Is the EDP too small for me or stick with the original Mission. Are there any advantages to the EDP?. You did a great comparison for us. Thank you very much!

Good idea but it seems alitte heavy. My sticks and platform together weighs 9 pounds. I made my platform which I know everyone can not do but it weighs just under 3pds. It's not nearly as big but I don't need a big platform like the mission.
@StaggsintheWild3 жыл бұрын
It's just an option... Somedays I walk in with a Mission, but a lot of hunts I'm going in with an Ultimate One Stick and 40' of rope... 4 lbs of gear and I carry my bow and wear my saddle. That's about as light as you can possibly walk in and hunt. :)
@gregbowen95463 жыл бұрын
@@StaggsintheWild yeah its a good option. If you don't have far to walk to your spot it's nice to have the extra feet room. I've seen your video with your youngest doing the one stick set up. Pretty cool! I'm using the one stick. I don't

@@StaggsintheWild I don't have a real problem with the one stick from tetherd as far as getting them together. I know you guys had some complaints about them. I really like them with a aider. I haven't tried the one stick method like you guys use yet.

@@gregbowen9546 Glad they're working out for you. A LOT of guys found the exact same problems we uncovered with our set... and even worse, with pins breaking, etc. We never saw that, but we just couldn't ever get comfortable with the lack of footroom on them. But that's OUR preference. I do find though that a LOT of people aren't willing to shave a few ounces to give up that much step room. Some are, and that's what makes the world go around. :)

Noticing your tether it looks like you have a Prussic tied to your carabiner. I can’t really tell. What is that benefit?
@StaggsintheWild3 жыл бұрын
It’s just the tag end of my tether tied up to get it out of the way ... sometimes I daisy-chain it up; other times I’ll just double it up and clip it back into the carabiner like you see here.

No idea what you're referring to? If you're trying to say that cutting a hole in the pad to make room for the hump wasn't my idea, well ... you're mistaken. I solely thought of it all by myself without seeing anyone else ever do it. Now ... could someone else have thought of the same idea and made it public without my knowledge -- even BEFORE me? ABSOLUTELY! LOL... Good for them. It's not rocket science here we're working with. I'm sure you could put this dilemma in front of a group of people and a lot of them would come to the same solution. :)

Stay salty Mark. Better yet, why don't you put your ego on the line and try to help the saddle community half as much as Mr. Staggs has. Just because someone hasn't dropped a video yet doesn't mean they haven't already thought of the idea, or even already filmed it. KZbinrs often delay releasing videos so there's a method to the flow of their channel.
