I'm in MN & we were having snow this afternoon. I hooked a 14mm climbing rope onto a piece of paracord I put over a live branch tight against the 🌳 a few weeks ago. I was able to pull the paracord over & to the ground so I was able to hook up to my climbing line. I did this while a gray squirrel was digging in the snow 40 feet away. When I got back down to the ground I hooked the paracord to the climbing line. Brought my line home & left the paracord tied to a small 🌳 nearby 7' off the ground. I expect activity in the next week & will return. Minutes to get up & get down stealth fully. Just a little prep work needed during the off-season when u pick spots & trim lanes.

I've found that putting the platform right in the center behind u makes the best sense. It can move more swinging forward to back on your side & create noise on a slim trail in the woods. Put things on your sides which r lower profile. Ease of use & stealth is the name of the game. The advantages outweigh the detriments, always.

I daisy chain my tether/lineman when walking in. Have them hooked to my loops and around my back, this eliminates my need for two dump pouches. Also a Doyle's gear hoist is one gadget that is fiddle free and makes life so much easier

Nice video. I am glad to see I am not the only one that marks their pullup rope to know how high they are, been doing that for over 15 years. I know how high I am, most are not as high as they claim. The 3 finger hooker I picked up last year has served me very well. I highly recommend one or two. I use four hawk 30" sticks with aiders, two are double aiders. I only attach one to my saddle on the way up. The hooker lifts the rest. Being that the hooker is so light I had to add weight to it for maneuverability. I simply used a small steel quick link to attach it to my rope.

One sticking method seems great for straight trees with limited branches. But man I cant imagine doing that on a gnarly tree with branches all over. Garrett's method with the stacked sticks all on his one hip is by far the most efficient. I expect nothing less from the DIY Sportsman mastermind.

Exactly why I don't 1 stick. I use the wild edge steppladders. I only ever use 3. They're super compact. I use a home made aider with them and get about 18ft or so. Just a piece of climbing rope with a loop on one end and a carabiner attached to a prusic knot on the other for height adjustment. When I get to height, I wrap it around the tree and hang my bag off of it.

I tie P cord to the carabiner that chokes the tether when I'm ready to rappel down. When I hit the ground and I'm all packed up, I pull the P cord, which loosens the carabiner and kind of feed the rope (pushing rope sounds counter intuitive haha). than just pull the rope right through. This allows you to get the tether down regardless if you've gone around limbs or whatnot. the end of the tether doesn't have any knots so this allows it to pass through with ease.

Just one thing to note about using open cell foam.. yes it may be lighter initially but it will absorb water and could create mold issues as well as being heavier after all is said and done. Haven't done any experiment myself I just know open cell foam will absorb water and closed cell isn't supposed to just something to think about.

That is a prototype grapple hook. I used a rubber coated metal hook (from a 1” ratchet strap) before the grapple hook. I had it wrapped with a highly reflective arrow wrap so it was highly visible under a red light. It worked great!

Carl Kossuth and his one-stick innovations are always interesting. I would like to know what percentage of his solo tree ascents for hunting use the one-stick method vs multi stick methods? I understand that the multi stick is the method to use when two people (a hunter and a camera person) are ascending the same tree, so lets exclude those from the question.

I used the no stick method all last season-just an aider wrapped around the tree with a cinch knot. It's a lot of work and early season I'd be sweating like a stuck pig. I'm thinking its time for the 1 stick method. I really like how the aider as already attached to the stick.

I use the saddle and one stick to get above average reach level to install trail cams on public land. I found this a good way to get used to the gear, from carrying to set up to getting up in a tree but not too high at first. Obviously, what's not used is the tether and platform, but those can be tested as well.

The Madrock Safeguard, when used like this, is out of spec. There are other friction hitches that are safer. You can use an ATC or figure 8 to rappel down.

What is out of spec about using the safeguard for repelling? It is a belay/repelling device. I don’t know what size rope he’s using but that’s the only thing that could be out of spec.

Only question I have, is while doing the single stick climbing method, is there any point where you would use a lineman's belt? When you come up to a branch/limb that you want to climb past. Use your lineman to connect you to the tree so you can disconnect your climbing rope/tether and reconnect it above the limb and continue climbing.

I actually use the lineman’s belt the whole way up as I’m climbing the aider/stick. It just helps with balance and safety. I still have the tether/rappel rope attached to the tree and I move it up with each step up to avoid any major slack if I was to have a fall. It does slow me down by a few seconds but for me it’s worth it. And as others have mentioned, if you have to pass some branches you’ll need a lineman’s rope or another tether anyway.

That's alot of extra work, cool but to much Work in the dark if you ask me if your trying to get out unnoticed. I think I would use the sticks for sure but opt for lock on stand. Still really cool but I'm all about simplicity while tree stand hunting. Hopefully anyone using this system is practicing with it as much as shooting your weapon cause it needs to be second nature.

I never understood why people prefer that method. It isn’t any faster or efficient. And even if it was it wouldn’t be by much. People are just over thinking these things, like the knaiders and swaders. Just get some sticks and climb the tree, it’s pretty simple.

@@CB-sd6kl its super easy and allows you more options for height in the tree. It works in elevation to adjust for hills, and it helps for extremely crooked trees or ones that require a lot of moves. Its super light and easy to do and takes a few minutes to get up and set. I enjoy it and it's the best way I've gone up a tree.

Yeah but if so, I would go with a Cruzr XC saddle, a set of 4 sticks, and a mission platform from Trophyline. I would also go with a standard tether.

Just an FWI. Basic photography ... almost everything in this video was shot in the shade. with a bright background. Hard to follow. Very good presentation and great info though.
