Thanks John. I just completed your fence and it has made a huge difference to my table saw's capabilities. When you dont have a table saw fence it is a long process to measure individual rips using combination squares or callipers. Admittedly I made some blunders along the way (I put the fence "T" on backwards).......yeah didn't read the instructions. But despite my comic bungling I actually managed to utilise my repair abilities and produce a pretty neat version of your fence. I'm very happy with the result. Thanks again.

John, Last year I bought your plans for the fence, built it and LOVE it! It took a old family saw missing a fence and not been used in nearly 30 years to being used now. I mistakenly thought why would you do another video of building a fence, wow, glad you did! I learned even more about building it. Thanks John!
@ksnax4 жыл бұрын
I made this fence and love it! With care in creating it, it is very consistent and precise, beating out the quality of the stock fence on my newer Craftsman contractor saw. As I mentioned in another comment, I changed the profile of the locking lever to hang vertically when unlocked and lock at horizontal. This creates a less hazardous space for people to move around when not locked in place, as well as reduces potential alignment shifts from being bumped.

I really appreciate these videos you've made of this saw. God has given you a great ability to build stuff and instruct it, with clarity . The addition of that measuring tape strip you put on the saw is great, however as a creature of habit of an old carpenter I still use the measure fence to Blade method. Hi John, I like your projects, and decided to make this fence. I have the plans, and have most of the pieces almost put together. Then I noticed you have a gap between your fence rail and the top of your bench. I have a 3/4 mdf on bottom, and 2 sheets of 3/4 maple or birch ply on top, flush with my Ridgid table saw top. I don't THINK I'll have any issues using your system. I may have to make a slight adjustment to the piece that attaches to the bench (make it taller so I can account for that gap you have) and also notch out the miter slots...but, figure I'd run it by you, you seem to really know your stuff. I look forward to making more of your projects too! Thanks for all the stuff you do on KZbin!

Awesome build plans. Thanks John! If only I had a table saw fence to precisely rip my material list 😔
@silverfox75504 жыл бұрын
John,just finished your fence a few days ago and it seems to perform quite well, fine tuning was minimal as straight 90 degree cuts are prevalent. I am not a professor in physics but the clamping pressure of the cam is likely quite high so there is no need to be overly aggressive when tightening in position. Have had this saw for approximately thirty five years. Original fence was never truly accurate ( measure every setup) and the clamping at rear of the fence failed ( white metal) . Replacement fences while probably quite good were considerably more expensive than the original cost of unit,hence this alternative seems quite reasonable. Enjoy your projects and videos . Work safe and be safe ( healthwise). Thanks.

Made one quite a bit like this a few years ago,but I used the screw handle off a Harbor Freight 6" bar clamp and cut the "nub" that the screw handle screwed into instead of a cam lock mechanism. If I'd take a lil more time to shim the fence rail I could get the accuracy almost spot on but for me being within .5mm over 6' rip in 2x4/2x6 PT is fine Also added a router to the TS and the fence does double duty for it.

Love the fence and will purchase the plans. Like the idea of a plastic bench top, I'll do a cost comparison. Like the simplicity of the hand held conversion to table saw but can't live with the idea of having a table saw without a riving knife, so I'll go the more complicated but safer route of building a lift carriage.

I have the Triton TWX7CS001 Contractors Saw in their portable TWX7 Workcentre as I need to be able to fold the saw up out of the way in my minuscule workshop but the fence on it is absolute garbage. It has to be adjusted from both ends of the saw and uses 4 clamps to hold it in place, all of which make it very prone to errors & slow to use. So I have just completed building John's fence from his plans and it is absolutely brilliant. It actually make the saw finally usable. Thanks John.

@thunderstruck10785 жыл бұрын
You would've used electricity? FYI these are special, screw-cutting snips.
@JamesBiggar5 жыл бұрын
You mean side cutters (snips are for cutting sheet metal). They should be able to do it - aside from wires and insulation, cutting small screws and pins is technically one of the reasons they were first designed and implemented in the electrical and general construction industry decades ago - and I say this as a carpenter. If yours can't do the job, I recommend better quality tools. All cutters should be made of hardened steel which is typically much harder than a screw. There are cleaner ways to do it, but it does the job.
@solidus7845 жыл бұрын
@@thunderstruck1078 No I would probably use a big pliers and yes I know they are just shitty old snips so it doesn't matter. It's just that my snips are permanently attached to me and the thought of putting a big gouge in them hurts my fillings like chewing on tinfoil.
