I do think that the maps are some of your best work. It's one thing to see a sprite made into a 3d sculpture, but its another to see an entire world suddenly pop to life like this. It is incredible.

@@Kerobyxclay If I may make a request for a particularly difficult map here... I would love to see the overworlds of one of the Donkey Kong Country games, like DK Island or Crocodile Isle made. They're a lot more vertical than these other maps, and due to system limitations don't show their backside, which would make them particularly challenging to create. But seeing those locations be realized would be absolutely incredible. I don't care if it takes a long time to get around to them, but if you could do them one day, that would be amazing.

I've had plans for making the Donkey Kong Country 1,2, and 3 world maps for a long time now. I will get to it one day!

The world maps are definitely a favorite, the details end up feeling super accurate and almost like if Nintendo chose to remake these older games using clay! Saying that I also remembered the Kirby game on Wii U that ended up being made to look like clay, maybe something from that would be a fun project in the future.

Amazing work, as always, Kero! I feel like Vanilla Dome is a deceptively tricky one to make due to all the topographic differences, but you really brought the world design into 3-D with the different thicknesses and colors of clay - it looks so cool! Using a bit of black for the pipes is a nice touch to create an additional sense of depth, and the Switch Palace came out quite nicely! I love the texture details in the periphery of the map, as well. One of my favorite parts about opening up new levels in SMW was seeing the land itself morph and shift to accommodate new levels - it really made you feel like a pioneer in a wild and remote land! Also, why are stars so hard to draw well? 😭 It's a rather unforgiving shape, with a low margin for error. But that was a great idea, borrowing a Star from Star Road to use as a template. Also, I love how optimistic you sound when you say, "Now, let's begin the very painful process of painting..." 😂 By the way, mad props for creating chapters with such fun and clever titles. The writing style reminds me of how the official Nintendo Players Guides would be written back in the day, and I just adore that. ❤️ Keep up the fantastic work, my friend!
@Kerobyxclay2 жыл бұрын
Honestly the hardest part is figuring out where to cut. Since it's not possible to have a top down view, it's partly just a guessing game. I'd have to agree, it has a pretty unique way of hiding a bunch of different locations inside of one big map! Stars are just the worst... haha. The thing about the painting is I had to scratch off the little lines so many times because I didn't make them the right size. When it comes to painting there's no instant success with me... Ahh really? That means a lot! I try to add in some humor into the chapters and I'm glad it's noticed.

I started following you because I was so impressed with a Zelda map you made. I love these old school Nintendo maps, they give me major nostalgia. Well done on 30K man. You really do such an amazing job with these maps! Your figures are awesome as well though! I wanted to suggest that you might benefit from getting some liquid sculpey to make your raw clay stick well and more easily to the baked clay, but then you broke out the fimo liquid clay! That would work great too! If you just add a thin layer! It really does make it so much easier to get those to stick together, so you don't have to press so much, and it help prevent the possibility of air pockets. 😁 I really do love your artistry though!!! Keep on crafting!!
@Kerobyxclay2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I've used liquid sculpey for that before, but I used the last of the bottle on softening some old clay. I never thought of using fimo liquid for that. Great idea! Air pockets are the worst....
