Not to be some know it all, but..., if your going to use a chainsaw to make all of those scoring cuts, it may be easier to just snap a couple of chalk lines and cut it with a chainsaw. Also may be much easier to chop the jogs from the scoring off by rotating the log and chop/hew them off as the jogs will chop off much easier and cleaner from the side of the log rather than from the end grain as you show in the vid. The grubs, or pine beetle larvae that you mention usually get into the pine type of timber if its cut in warm weather and the bark is not peeled off fairly soon after. After the bark removal, I like to use a solution of about 1 cup of Borax laundry detergent (borate) and about 3 glugs of household bleach per gallon of water, well mixed and brushed all over to prevent insect and mold. Those are some nice tongs for sure... First log home for a customer in 78' and still going, best to ya 🙂

After 45 years you are allowed to give out advice, I use borax in the shop as flux will give that a shot! Stay tuned I’m sure I’ll do some more things the hard way as I fumble through the process…

Coming along there Chris. I’d be firing up that there forge and banging out an adze and if anyone can make a good one it would be you. It will make short work out of the tasks and leaves a really good finish. Keep them coming, Chris.

I only had the two logs to flatten the bottom on but a bowl adze might make the saddle cuts easier! Thanks for the kind words.

..Good job on those log dogs sir. Maybe an adze and a set of chisels and slicks would help if you don't use the hewing ax. Yes, i'de like to see more of the construction on the cabin...
