I think your talking about your autistic son is helpful to others dealing with their autistic children. My grandson has had access to all the therapy available for children. Not everyone does. Your talking about it can give the insight and hope

Oh Melina I can so relate to what you are saying about your dear son, but from a Grandma's point of view. My Grandson is Autistic. Visits can be tiring when Connor is "in his mood " ! I always tell his Mom and Dad to take turns taking breaks to go do something for themselves to de-stress. Connor is such a love bug, but when things go sideways ...Bar the doors Nellie !! I love these paperclip goodies!! I can handle this... I think!! Lol ! God bless you and keep you and yours!

I love the trifolds, I will be making some tonight. We have raised our 18 yr old grandson since he was one month old. He is high functioning autistic. It can drive you to your cave. He doesn't have the rages like he used to but dwells on everything. It is nice to know that I'm not alone. God bless your family

Love these and I'm a huge fan of Gi. It struck me that you could also make a larger size, leave off the paper clip, and glue on 3 sides to make a pocket behind it. Just love these. You have such wonderful tutorials and do such a fine job of promoting and thanking other makers. Thank you!

Melina, these are really cute. Looks easy to make. About your mom and phantom pain. It's real for the patient, also with the anniversary of your dad's passing, it maybe how her body is dealing with week. Glad to hear that she is feeling better, today. These paperclip pockets are so cute! I hear ya, Girl. I have an autistic 11 year old and an autistic 6 year old grandson. They were both in one of those moods at the same time yesterday. I was ready to run away from home. 😆 🤣 😂 Thank God they woke up in better moods and frames of mind. Autism sure can be hard sometimes, on thos of us who are parents/grandparents and caregivers. Praying for you both. Thank you! ❤😊

Thank you for sharing about AJ… my son is also on the spectrum and I have found the exact same thing with him. It’s so hard when he’s in that ‘raging’ phase. He is always so apologetic later, but during the incident, I often find it overwhelming. It’s actually a relief to know that I’m not the only one going through this type of ‘mood swings’. Thank you Melina. I love these little scrapbusters videos. We have an ADHD child, who is now 25 years old, who has always had anger management issues and has been just as hard on others as he is on himself. He cannot forgive himself for making mistakes and others who he blames. I have been where you are in having a son who is lost in the "not letting it go" phase of anger. It just has to run it's course with our son. I usually try to redirect him if I can catch it earlier enough but as he gets older, it's harder to do because we are away from each other. We have coping skills that we use and the one that I use first is prayer. If you have any other suggestions on what works for you and AJ, please let me know. Prayers and blessings to AJ and you during these times of struggle. 🤗🙏🙏🙏💜

I totally understand your “get-away/hideaway” escape! My son is adhd/bipolar/emotionally handicapped-where he has no concept of others feelings he is now almost 34 years was on his own for a long time and moved Back home when the COVID came around he does his own thing & has a FT work from home job. Pays his portion of bills here within the household yet sometimes the things he says or does takes me back to when he was 1st diagnosed while going through puberty. He was already chemically imbalanced with that then being labeled that just did not make any sense to him at all & he would get so furious and do the same sort of things you’re stating you son is currently acting out. I didn’t have a craft room back then & when I got frustrated I’d lock myself in my bedroom to avoid any confrontations and he would get all the more furious/angry. Yet it was safer for the both of us that I did that. As I was a single parent. As an adult He sometimes brings up those days & says he still didn’t know why he would do those things. And I have to remind him “it’s just the way your system is wired. Take it for what it is & move on to the positive things you have going on” and he usually is satisfied with that.

We have a family friend whose son has Asperger Syndrome. The last week he has been in a RAGE¡! Then he wonders why no one has stopped in to see him. 😮 when it's pointed out that "he hasn't been nice to be around. People don't like him yelling at them." He then states i bewilderment "Anyways I'm not mad at them." Well, gosh, he sure yells at us like he is mad at us. He yelled at his boss, and was told to go home until he changes his attitude. I'm going to make some of these later this morning (it's 5:11am and haven't been to bed since 2 nights ago. A couple of 20 minute naps. I get so irritated when this happens to me.) I'll be up for good in about 4 hours. These look like they could be decorated many ways.

Yes, it is very exhausting. Any mental illness is. Even though autism may not be considered a mental illness, the energy that it takes, both the sufferer and the family, is the same TYPE of energy. There is never a completely restful time, because at any moment, you might be propelled into action again.
