They could probably strobe led lights in a dark room, and repeat the same experiments without using any cameras. That's basically how manual inspection of rotating tires is done, persistence of vision.

Remember this is a show for kids to get them interested in Science and finding out why things work. If you look at any kids show, they emphasise reactions to get them excited and yes, most things are simple. However, simple often is fun. Think of the simple aspects of putting an Alka-zelter tablet in water and oil to make bubbles. Not university science, but it it fun, makes kids think about what is going on and even adults love it. At the end of the day it is about having fun, exploring science and getting kids interested to explore NOT winning Hollywood cinematography awards and best actor awards...... relax and enjoy the simple wonders of Physics:)

Ran into this clip. Watched it. Was not sure this is a drama or science program. Felt like leaving some message. And then read the prior messages. Hmm, I don't know about "stroboscopic effect". I don't think it's a fit name. In my opinion more fit keywords would be "aliasing" and "undersampling".
@forrest2258 жыл бұрын
Nico Smets i belive the name come from the use of strobe lights to see this effect. When a strobe is used, you see the effect with your own eyes. I belive its actually caused accidents with machinery, the flikering of flourecent lights can make quipment look like its not running.
@m8e8 жыл бұрын
Right, you get the same or arguably the real effect in a dark room with a strobe light. Now we get rolling shutters and shit... Peter Brown made a couple of videos woodturning under strobe light, that shows the effect and dangers.
@VARIOUShorses8 жыл бұрын
That was a sudden ending. I'm rather annoyed by something though, how can that count as something the co-hosts have never seen before if his example for when you might have seen it was from a film - something they have to have seen before for the explanation to make sense? I know I'm being pedantic, but that's a little silly isn't it?

Really? You never seen a helicopter's wings in movies? They always look like they are moving backwards slowly. This isn't "some we have NEVER seen before". This is pretty basic shit, yet they hype it up to being something new and spectacular.
@1993JoshG8 жыл бұрын
Razid they explicitly say at the start that they HAVE seen that kind of stuff at the start. it's the effect with the water wave they haven't seen.

Pro Haggis Then it's pretty silly to ask them if they want to see something, that they have never seen, before that.

The bit that he hoped nobody had seen was the part at the end with the water being vibrated using the speaker. Although I do agree that it's irritating when they feign ignorance to things you'd expect people doing the stuff that they do to know.

Your sight is not a continuous stream of image or data either. The light information in your eye is integrated (summarized) over some time, and then interpreted by the brain. So essentially, you are seeing individual pictures as well. Same mechanism applies, just with higher speeds.
