A quick video on turning old brake rotors into weight plates. A great way to get really cheap weights.

I'm thinking of nabbing some old brake rotors out of the scrap bin at work.

That's a great idea and should be easy to make.

Exactly what I was looking for. But I don't have a welder. I would just cut a piece of scrap wood to fit inside the rotor, drill some holes in it to tie it to rotor with a steel wire.

Paying someone to weld up something is not cheap and there are decent welding machines for less than $200. Besides, once you learn how to do it you'll discover all the things you can now make or fix so it's a good investment. That, an air compressor, and some good hand tools is really what every shop should have. Good luck and glad this helped.

@@Engineering_Improvisation I just updated the comment with an idea I have. I have some scrap wood and wire. I will cut wood rounds to fit inside the rotor and tie it with wire. Hope it will hold good. I am going to buy a welder anyway. I have a compressor and it's very useful as well.

That could work. Although at that point you could make the wood discs bigger and bolt it through the lug flange as that would likely be stronger.

@@Engineering_Improvisation I rounded the ends of a 1x4 and press fit in the rotors inner cavity with a mallet. Its solid.

That'll work, too. 👍

I have a basic Lincoln 110v Flux core wire feed. So far, it's welded everything I've needed to with great results.
