I collected the seeds. It's pretty easy if you wait until the plant goes to seed. Depending on the size of the lettuce plant, get a garbage bag, put it over the top and shake. If you harvest them while they're in flower, they still will turn into the dandelion like puff balls. I'm growing a lot around my property just by carrying them all over LOL. So I collected some just putting different bags over them and shaking them. There were a couple plants I couldn't get to that just dried naturally. They really an amazing plants. God provides😊.

Secret about crockpots... Low, Med, & High, all reach the same temperature 290° f. The difference between the settings is the time it takes to reach. Obviously, High reaches temperature faster, Low taking longer. Be sure to use one with a Keep Warm setting. That mode keeps food at 165°

Sitting in my kitchen with open windows, I heard a loud, distinct crunching sound. first time I got a good look at the woodchuck that made a hole under the door stoop he is sitting on his but holding a big wild lettuce stalk happily munching away. Crunch crunch. He was working on it for at least 20 minutes. Now most of the stalks are cut off halfway up dang it! loved the videos.

At time-stamp 30:57 you mentioned a french press. For making home-made cheese I once used two or three 5-gallon plastic buckets. I recommend drilling two or three dozen holes in one of the plastic buckets with an electric drill. When you stack the buckets together, solid bits stay in the top half and liquid ends up in the bottom half. The holes made by an electric drill are usually too big. Therefore, I put my heated curdled milk inside of a pillow case. I bet that you can pour simmered wild lettuce inside of a pillow case and put the pillow case inside of the five gallon bucket full of holes. The liquid will drain to the bottom. It's also possible to cut a circle shaped piece of ply wood almost the same size as a bucket bottom and then put a bunch of rocks on top. The heavy rocks squish the juice out.

This is not hard to do. You just have to step out and just do it. The first time I did it the crock pot then finished it on the stove. I did it on low so it took about 3 days because I would turn it off at night. I got a very thick gel, husband added some cherry amaretto to thin it out some like a cough syrup. We only use a half of a teaspoon. Trust his process it works, step out with a little faith in yourself, you can do it. I have been saving seed (I call them paratroopers) been putting them in a zip lock back but leave it open half way. Good luck to all who try this process.

Close to time-stamp 48:45 You mentioned putting the wild lettuce tar on wax paper. I recommend using rice-paper instead. Rice-paper is edible, and people can just eat the candy wrapper with the candy or eat the medicine tar with the medicine tar wrapper. In theory, rice-paper can be made from grains other than rice, such as amaranth, corn, wheat, etc... but I have never made rice paper before; I have only ever bought factory made rice-paper. Some rice-paper is brittle. I recommend searching the internet for "edible paper". Edible paper does *NOT* taste good, but it probably makes a good candy wrapper for sticky candy and a good wild lettuce paste. I have never tried it, but when I was a child my mother bought ginger paste candy for me wrapped in rice paper and the rice paper was edible, it was not wax or plastic.

I have both types and choose the omega for a far superior extraction in similar situations every time 🤗 you can use on raw and also the cooked down material … your yield of the juices within the cell walls will be much higher and more powerfully medicinal! The first time I made the tar I fell asleep 😮. It was in a crock pot on low. It was almost completely evaporated. I let it cool, it hardened. I scraped it out in little chunks. It is a weird thing. Moist air will make it wet again. Anyway, I put the pieces in a small air tight container with a little raw rice, like you do to keep moisture out of salt. They still are hard and work! Mostly anxiety and pain relief. You can just mix a pieces, pea size with a little liquid and drink. Or smoke in a pipe. It gets soft when smoking (don't touch it'll burn you) but it rehardens when it cools off. So cool! Im going to try juicing just leaves and cooking it down. I had some tar in the fridge for a long time too. Seems to get better with age; both ways. Thinking😳of an invention to drain the stalk😮. Hey, try a window screen; instead of that grate. I think I am in love with you and your videos. Everyone I know thinks I'm crazy. Wait till they find out I have only medicine around someday

I think the primary reason someone might say, "you should not boil it" is that no fire or electricity is necessary if you put a small amount of wild lettuce syrup in a glazed clay pot (or metal pot that does not rust easily) and then wrap the pot in cheese cloth, and put it up on a shelf, and let it dry for a couple of weeks. It would have to be a small enough amount to dry quickly (less than half an inch of liquid in the bottom of the pot). To digress, the Spanish word "SECA" (pronounced "SAY-KAW" or "S.EH.EE.K.A.W") means "dry". For example, dry clothes (or dry robes) are "ropa seca". I am fairly certain that the English word "sacred" means "dry". I suppose sacred bread does not get moldy because it is bone dry, and putting a pot containing a small amount of liquid (a shallow pool) up on a high shelf away from pet dogs and children to dry gives you the "sacred" (holy?) shelf on which medicine is kept. I don't think its necessarily holy in a religious or spiritual sense; it is just dry. Anyway, putting a cheese cloth lid on a pot and putting up to dry works when no electricity or firewood or flammable gas is available to boil the liquid down into a syrup.

when you are straining put a colander over your pot you are pouring into, put several layers of cheese cloth in the colander then pour through that… then you can gather the cloth and squeeze it good to get all of the good stuff . For smaller amounts I take a canning funnel and put in mason jar and then inside of that pop in one of those reusable coffee filter baskets…use that as your strainer…you can line that with cheese cloth as well so you can squeeze out every drop at the end.

For those who’s curious what’s different between dry one and fresh one I have to say if you dry it with air/sun you don’t need that much water so when you dry it out you will use a little water to just cover your dry lettuce and save time. So after drying you will save so much time

At 33:25 you mentioned keeping bugs out of the crock pot. Stretching a piece of cheese cloth over the top works. Also, cheap white "sheer" curtains work in place of cheese cloth. A "sheer curtain" is see-through and will allow steam to escape, because sheer curtains have many small holes. Do not use brown, red, blue, or colored curtains because the steam will make the colored dye leak out and then the medicine will contain curtain dye. White-colored sheer curtains are fine for this purpose.

what if u were to at the stage of straining you were to strain into a jar and then put the jar into the crockpot and cook it down that way, your product would cook down inside the jar that you will end up storing it in. Just keep an eye on your water level and if need more water make sure to add HOT water or your jar will break! I use this method when I make my oils. Your time is precious!

I wonder if you froze the plantain "juice" would the oil and water separate ... and the water freeze. If it did separate and water froze ...it sure would be easy to take out the water.

My question is why you don't also use 100 proof vodka. I have heard that only part of the medicinal properties are water soluble, and that the rest are alcohol soluble.

You can . I just didnt have any and sharing the most common methods. I used alcohol to tincture it in but i only use 80 proof in tincture

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors Seems like a couple splashes of the alcohol would be the best way to melt off the remaining tar from your crock pot, pan and utensils you used. You could then just poor it into your tincture.

Not to mention you live like a block away from the church so I have a Google Maps to I live in Canada so I seen your location yeah here stalker but yeah yeah you don’t live too far from your church so but just running back-and-forth I can see that being a total pain in the ass anyways I just wanted to say how much you remind me and look like my best friend Terry up here in Canada. You both are collectors Rizers, your head straight you don’t have to belong to underground military because if you did, that would be another trip also thanks for your time, bud. Cheers.z not to mention. That you and Terry look so much like and you’re both outdoorsman/forgers/wild Pushman so really cool for the two of you to get to meet each other I wonder if you’re so sort for raising we could do chicken combine Australian Canada and get the two of you to meet up somehow either you come up here to Canada or you go down there to Australia I think you guys would have a hoot you really really really really we get along great it would Be Fascinating so if anybody wants to donate money to these two in order to put them on holiday for one of them to fly down there, one of them to fly happier that would be amazing amazing amazing plus they’re old ladies of course to join them on this trip would be great too, but I think it would be cool. Just even if they could make a boys trip, I mean we have so much to offer up here and then in BC canon bank on Vancouver Island and there’s so much more down Australia. I know Terry did military time and you guys fit right in. Let’s think about brainstorm this come on guys if y’all need a dollar or two about the world And we get done if Taylor Swift flow her private jet anywhere but she chooses to. We should at least be able to get these two gentlemen together. I think it would be amazing. Awesome trip for both of them for each other’s country or the other country I would be cool.😊p QC

When working with herbs a general rule is anything with oil is dried. Anything with alcohol as a tincture is fresh. This herb is an exception to the rules.
