Much better thought out than many I've seen online, but the upright mast needs more diagonal bracing down to the base. It shouldn't be flexing with that light of load. The rest of it is well built, I'm just worried about the first time it's used at capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, the mast/main base might fail due to too much stress being focused on to small of area. Just two pieces of diagonal bracing would add a huge amount of strength to an already good design.

I was scrolling around KZbin I love welding / DIY videos and I noticed yours . I love videos for homemade tools and such and I love this one. I love how it folds completely down and the design is is very well thought out and executed . You sir have earned a new subscriber to your channel ! 👍👍 Very nice job I look forward to more of your video's !!

Good stuff. I really like how compact it gets real fast. Nice design. If you only lift 100-200kg, you can get away with way thinner materials. If you go for more, may worth putting 2 extra wheels cca where the legs fold.

please please please NEVER NEVER EVER EVER weld with a can of spray paint on the weld bench.. I watched a friend stick welding swing the stinger over and hit the spray can. when the can blew up it blew right into his face with his welding helmet up funneling the spray paint onto his face which was on fire.. the paint stuck to his face and gave him third degree burns and blinded him for life. he is horribly disfigured and will never see.. I cannot stress this enough please NEVER WELD WITH A CAN OF SPRAY PAINT ON THE BENCH!!!!!!

Hard to believe that extremely rare and unfortunate events actually happened to align that perfect… I’ve been welding for 12 years with my oxy acetylene hoses run right beneath my weld slab, never had a problem. But Good advice.

Probably one can buy such a crane for about 3-400 €, but it’s much cooler to see someone actually make it themselves! Great work m8! Really cool project!

That is one awesome build! better thought out than many others I've seen on YT! But then mechanical engineering, welding and hydraulics is a little beyond my abilities! Especially since I am a retired RN! LOL!! 🤣 I can do some DIY rebuilding of internal structure of a house or make some decent cabinets but that is my limit! You sir deserve 2 thumbs up! 👍👍!

I had to take a second look reading your thread....to see if it was me who wrote it....I'm retiring RN soon, and. I will build this with my cousin to help move the lathe and milling machine I plan to get soon. just ask professionals their opinion for each step. you can do anything then....

Nice build. I think I would have raised the lower ram mount up higher (would have given a higher lift to the end of the boom) And used a pull pin to collapse the unit. The ram will raise easier the cranking the hand winch.

That's excellent, however I wonder with the winch if you even need the hydraulic cylinder. Seems like just an adjustable stop would work? That, and an electric winch with an old battery on the back of the crane seem like the next logical step.

Great job man!!! Really looks and it works! It will save your back. One friendly suggestion. You need a plasma cutter man. You can go cheap and get a $200 one off Amazon, or do what I did and get the best right off the bat. Hypertherm. American made and the consumables last the longest. It's what most professionals use. The Powermax 30 will run you around $1,500 if you shop around on the internet. The 45, the one I have, will run you around $1,700. Mine was $1,500 but that was the older model. They've since done a re-design and I guess made some improvements. Mine has been problem free for about 8 years. I would say mine gets used pretty hard. I don't even air-arc with my Miller Trailblazer. I just bring my Plasma cutter along and run it off my Trailblazer generator 50 amp plug. Really good job man!

Neglecting the members weight, and taking the max moment( when the weight line of action is perpendicular to the member) around end of vertical member, the forces (cable, hydraulic cylinder, engine weight) will produce a moment equation as: M = Tsin(beta)(x)+Hsin(alpha)(y)-W(x) = 0 from this you can get T = (W(x)-Hsin(alpha)(y) )/sin(beta)(x) H = W(x)-Tsin(beta)(x))/sin(alpha)(y) you can eliminate the cable and calculate for H when max moment is produced. from here you can get whatever T by reducing H or can get T first and then H. you can reduce the horizontal move by making Tcos(beta) = Hcos(alpha); hhh I forget the pully ! oh I have a lot to study
