Bro. My daughters and I are just getting into slot cars. It has been so much fun for them, and it appeals to my tinkering nature. Your channel is an awesome resource, so thank you for that.

Thanks for the tips. I will be using them. I have over 200 cars in my collection. It's a mix of Tyco Pro, HP2, HP7, 440, Older Aurora, Magnatration and more. I used to have more, but 2 of my other cases were stolen. I had all of my cars cataloged and I plan on getting the ones that were stolen back again. My home layout is on a 4'X 10" table.

wow really 200 cars sweet
@andrewluchsinger4 жыл бұрын
@@scooterdoughmas3012 It took some time collecting them, but they are here. A few don't run, but that won't take much to fix. The cases that were stolen had some Tyco Motorcycles and some of my older Tyco Pro cars in addition to 3 semi's.

I don't know what kind of piece of human shit would steal someone's slot cars....but I hope karma gets their thieving ass.

@@dancalmpeaceful3903 Thanks for the thoughts. I often wondered what the hell he did with them. I contacted the police and even asked the pawn shops if any of them saw the cars. It's been almost 15 years back. I never did hear about the cars. So far I have found a few. The others I'm still looking for.

@@andrewluchsinger I just think that stealing someone's slot cars is about as low as you can go....and yeah, if you had some rare ones...it's going to take you time to replace them for sure. And you're right...what did he do with them? The ONLY things I can think of is that he sold them to a hobby shop or on ebay. I remember once my wife was at a hospital with my son in a waiting room. A woman came in, asked my wife for handkerchief and as my wife turned and went to get her one, the wench STOLE my wife's purse! Well, they did track her down because as she was running from my wife, the wench dropped a WICK package. My wife contacted security and she explained that the thief dropped this WICK package. So..they went down to the WICK office (which was in the hospital) and sure enough after providing a description, it was the same woman. We did prosecute and made her pay back EVERY nickel it cost us to replace the purse, money inside, AND the costs for re-keying my house locks (my wife's house keys were in her purse..but not her car keys). I understand a man stealing from a man, a man stealing from a woman...but a WOMAN STEALING FROM A WOMAN? How fucking low is that? What a world we live in....take care and wish you luck on replacing your missing cars.

In my fifties, just bought two used Tyco sets and set up on a platform. Started buying some old AFX and a few new AW cars. Enjoying them. Needed to learn some maintenance, one new car had a brush that was stuck.

I do love the vintage AFX magnatraction chassis. They are fun to repair/improve, easy to fix and have just enough magnetism to still make it a challenge and entertaining to drive. The newer cars with the Neo mags you can just gun and they never fly off.....not that much fun...but they make great rail /track cleaners to remove the top level of oxidation and to prep the track for T-Jets and everything else.

The best tip in this video for all pancake motor cars is the tape to tighten magnets
@dancalmpeaceful39033 жыл бұрын
I always let the motor brush springs soak in alcohol for a bit to help get off any wayward carbon residue......
@413x3983 жыл бұрын
I used to cut strips from the side of soda pop cans to shim magnets. Looks a bit cleaner than tape.

Great information about a classic slot car chassis! But please wear safety glasses when using the wire wheels.

Really enjoying your videos. Recently back into the hobby after buying my 12 year old son an Auto World track for Christmas - which led to me digging all my childhood Tyco & AFX stuff out of storage! Tuning up my old cars now. What exactly is the dyno measuring? RPM, torque, grip, amp draw? Maybe I’ve missed an episode where you discuss the slot car dyno. It’s clear you improved the numbers, but it would help to know what those numbers represent. 😁

Yeah I talked to David at VRP and he is still sold out of the 2.0 Dyno. Been trying to get ahold of one myself.

As of 6/21, sold out of 2.0 AND 3.0. So, useless. I think you can use an ammeter to rig one up yourself.

I had success taking out the standard 15 tooth crown gear and using the AFX 19 tooth super II crown gear bought on ebay. Top end improved but the mean green armature works best to push that taller gearing.

I have the same chassis with a mean green and the same body just different color. It intermittently screams while running and bogs a bit, then takes off fine. Motor brush tension was a bit too much and it was getting hot. I fixed that and cleaned the arm well, brushes, springs and brush pockets and contacts. The chassis I have has no wiggle where the magnets go so shimming them with tape is not an option. I want it to run smooth and fast again. Could you please help me find what I’m missing. Motor brushes and springs are new. I got it fixed along with 22 more that were given to me with a collection the owner was planning to throw away. Many run real fast with the magnets not taped and are still loose. I really like the long legs the Mean green arms have. Some of my red arms with copper wire run real fast as well. I need to add more straight so I can see them top out, they really scoot! About 2/3rds of them.

How come you don’t mirror polish your contact points? New to the hobby, I am curious about things like electricity conductivity if contact points like gold or maybe silver or something contact points all polished

Did you oil the little motor shaft (right on the bottom side (shoe/pickup side), that pokes through? It's round and it's right in the middle of the chassis.
