Hi Gulce, for me the biggest takeaway is the CAO thing, since that's very specific to the Netherlands. In Germany many companies have a similar system and you get a so called "tariff contract", which includes the level of the salary you start with depending on your skills and responsibilities as well as the percentage of annual salary rise. That's not defined by government though, but by labour unions. Many industries have their own labour unions and related tariffs.

In the Netherlands it is just as in Germany. The governement can declare the CAO universally binding for that branch of business/industry.

Hi Gulce, this is a great video and very insightful. I am currently in the process of having interviews with Dutch companies and some of the offers were very low, comparing to my experience and the research that I've done to what should be the NL base salary.

Hey, I have a question. If I agreed for a certain salary and signed a contract for 6 months, can I ask for a raise or look for another company before that time? Can I quit earlier than the contract ends? How it's usually done in the Netherlands? I'm asking because in my homeland you basically can ask for a raise at any time and quit also if you don get it or found something else. You just usually must work 1 month after you informed that you are leaving. And also, in our culture a person who changes workplaces too often (every few months) usually considered as unreliable. You must work at least half a year at every position to seem reliable for recruiters. Is it the same in the Netherlands?

Thank you so much ! You are great! Let me ask you a question please! As an asylum seeker i am living around 2 years in reception centre! I found a job in some where, but The rule is i should contribute my 70% salary in reception centre, what should i do? This is curse for me i get nothing,
@grewdpastor
@grewdpastor 3 жыл бұрын
If you have been staying in an asylum seekers' center for 2 years, it is important whether you are recognized as entitled to asylum or whether you are considered to have no chance for asylum. In the first case, it is important to find your own accommodation as soon as possible. Since 70% of what you earn is claimed by the AZC, you must be a recognized asylum seeker. An unrecognized, hopeless asylum seeker is not allowed to work.

Hi! I've been following you for quite a while now and I want to ask you something. I'm looking to study an architectural master program in TUE Delft, will it be easier for me to get citizenship and work after studying or it doesn't matter for employer?
@bolanleidowu9435
@bolanleidowu9435 Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you got an answer to this but I can give you some insight if you're still looking to come to the Netherlands. Getting a citizenship in Netherlands involve being able to speak the language, pass your inburgering exams and depending on your situation, you might have to renounce your other citizenship. Netherlands does not permit dual citizenship except in some cases. You also need to have lived in the country for 5 years and be economically active.

You must understand that speaking and writing in dutch is important. As i understand you are a architect practising heer in nl. You must have experienced that whatever you have designed must comply to the dutch rules in esthetic as well the building code. Since those rules are written in dutch it is necessary to get to understand those rules. That is why dutch employers when it is your first job in nl are not willing to pay accordingly to the cao. Once you require those skills you can negociate for higher wages. In dutch law when there is a cao for that industrie employers are obliged to pay according to the cao. But for example for consultants there is no cao.

I hear your point, but I have to say that I disagree. I think if the CAO exists, it should apply to everyone. Otherwise it creates a problem. This situation I've mentioned in this video happens to a lot of people regardless if they have already knowledge of the Dutch system or not (for example in this case architecture). I knew a lot of architects who studied in NL, and actually learned a lot about the Dutch building code, etc. & were still taken advantage of. From experience as well, architecture offices were not all obliged to follow the CAO. I have left the industry since start of 2020. I don't know what's happened since then, but I still think not all follow it.
