In this video, I will explain the Makino a500Z.
The five-axis a500Z is the newest addition to Makino's series of high-capability horizontal machining centres.This versatile machine expands on the industry-leading performance and dependability of our nx-series four-axis HMCs by including a factory-built and fully integrated "Z-type" fourth and fifth axis combination to accommodate today's more complex part geometry challenges in a minimum number of workholding setups and machining operations. Due to unparalleled system rigidity, the a500Z's unique kinematic arrangement minimises force path lengths both through the spindle and through the workpiece, efficiently transferring both cutting loads and reactive forces into the machine's three-point levelled bed, maximising both metal removal rates and perishable tool life. The a500Z can handle workpieces up to 630mm x 500mm high and payloads up to 400kg.The X- and Y-strokes are 730mm and 750mm, respectively, with the Z-stroke varying from 500mm to 700mm depending on the arrangement of the rotating axes.Both rotary tables have direct drive, with unrestricted 360° movement on the B-axis and 180° movement on the innovative'slant style' C-axis unit.This enables for a wide variety of workpiece orientation, from the pallet top sitting horizontal to the spindle centerline to parallel to the spindle centerline, or anywhere in between. All axes on the a500Z feature closed loop active temperature control standard, giving not only the greater dimensional control inherent in this design, but also prolonged component life even in the most demanding production conditions, as has long been Makino's trademark.With 60 metre per minute fast rates for all linear axes and a B-axis rotation rapid rate of 45,000 degrees per minute, this nimble platform enables very efficient machine motions. The standard 14,000 RPM high power spindle on the a500Z produces 37 kilowatt peak power and 303 Newton-metre peak torque.The basic tool changer magazine size ranges from a 60 tool capacity ring type device to a 313 tool matrix type magazine.The APC enables machining on one pallet while another pallet's workpiece is being machined.
