Craftsman contractor saw 113.298762 tune up || LEVELING THE SAW || ADJUSTING THE CAST IRON WINGS ||

The 10" Craftsman contractor saw model 113.298762 was a great tablesaw new. Inspection, tune up , setup and shakedown in this video. It still outperforms many saws of today and is very popular for budget minded woodworkers. Budget tools are always in high demand, so I give my first impressions of some recent purchases from Facebook Marketplace. I will give my initial thoughts of the condition and setup along with an article on my website that will host a parts list and downloadable manual. I will also supply the sources to buy replacement parts for this table saw.

I have the same saw with the same wings on it I love it, and I will move my switch also that was a great idea. I have a radial arm Craftsman that is a 1962 model Radial 100 and it works great...love old Craftsman tools...Have a great day

I purchased a similar model last weekend for 50 dollars model # 113.298843 with a 3 hp motor and I plan on adding it to a custom made 30x24x32 1/4” steel cart on wheels for a new plasma and welding table that I can add angle iron pieces on the ends that can be raised or lowered for fabrications and the miter can also help with angle welds. There’s so many possibilities and the best thing it is mobile. This is my second build the first one was a three legged grinder table with a 1/4” plate steel top. I bought a 12”x60” steel drain cover and cut in half and spot welded the pieces together for a 24”x30” table top for the stand and bolted it to the top. Being able to move it in two pieces is lighter than in one piece. The motor I’m thinking of making a belt sander with adjustable speeds but I’ll have to research how to make it work safely.

That is awesome! I highly recommend using a link belt instead of a standard V-belt. It will eliminate vibration caused by a v belt Pretty sure there is a link to it on my website.

I have the same saw and wings. Both of my wings bowed down in the middle. I loosened the middle two bolts, then used a car scissor jack to put a little pressure from the bottom. They are both flat and flush now 👍

I have just started to refurbish one of these saws. My wife picked it up for me at an estate auction for $45. It needs some rust clean up, on the wings mostly, but there is a touch on the table as well. I'm thinking of building it into a roll-around cart for my shop, but lumber prices need to drop first. Until then, I'll be leveling and tuning it up and checking on safety issues. First thing? New power cord for the switch since someone, in their infinite wisdom, removed the ground pin from the plug. I await your next videos on this. Thanks!

I might just make a welder’s table out of these wings. I’m noticing a lot of woodworkers ditch them eventually and go with a laminate particle board for the weight savings and easy of modification. The wings are machined cast iron so they resist weld squatter. Thanks for giving me the idea whenever you used that clamp to correct the wing!

Nice vid, Kevin :D Considering wood is a "living" material, I think you can live with that tiny dip in the middle of the table. My brand new Laguna F3 has a slight sag to the wings by a sheet of paper at the extreme sides, and that is within factory tolerance. So, I think you will be very happy with your saw after these adjustments. Cheers.

I bought the same saw bought from an old gentleman who used it once and it looked like it! Did some maintenance and waiting for link belt to come in! Mine came with every attachment the fence isn’t as bad as everyone made it seem! 200$ but I think it was worth it

I've had more issues with the steel metal wings being bent or warped. I think this was due to the table saw being lifted by the wings when it was loaded on a truck. I ended up replacing both of them with the cast iron wings. It adds a bit more weight to the table saw but it's worth having a good flat surface.

I have similar Craftsman saw from early 50’s I have up graded mine to a Delta t3 fence from Lowe’s,a 3 hp 220 motor from harbor Freight up grade pulleys and belt to machine one with link belt and replace switch to a paddle switch

Runs great , the fence up was easy to install the cast iron taps well and the 3 hp motor was no heavier than the old 1 hp.

I couldn’t help but notice the gas-fired water heater with the ‘“Gas-Can” warning sign. Combustible dusts can be just as hazardous as flammable gas vapors. A carpentry shop in the basement with natural gas-fired water heater is very risky!

No problem, glad to help. If you refer to the manual and cross reference the pulley size. any generic pulley will work and they are standard size graduations. machined pulleys will be better balanced compared to the stamped pulleys. I appreciate the compliments bud. It is a good reminder for me to get a replacement pulleys link and add it to my article.

Great videos. I have the same saw. Bought it cheap a lifetime ago and never used it because of the blade alignment issues you mentioned in the previous videos. Anything I cut binds up. Any help you could offer on adjusting the blade to the table would certainly be appreciated. Up until now it has just been a very expensive out feed table for a lesser saw.

It is a belt drive. The cable drive 10" saws are ok, just hard to find a replacement cable if needed

@@MakinSawdust, I must be blind? I watched your video again and it plainly shows that your saw is definitely belt driven. It is hard to convince some people that these saws are pretty good saws. I use to carry one to the job site when a saw was needed when doing custom work. I couldn't afford driving back to the shop to make a few cuts. When I retired that saw was still working fine. If you treat them good they will treat you good.

I have the same saw and fence. I added paste wax to the contact points under the fence. Slides smooth yet still clamps tightly. Also, make sure the front and rear rails are parallel. I had to shim one of my rails with thin washers.

Do you have ''any" info on changing the arbor bearings? This is the 2nd time I'm having to change them. WHY? because I went the cheaper way and bought CHINESE bearings....The last damned time I'll do that.!!! I've got the same model saw I bought used in 1988 or 89. I wouldn't take a farm in Texas for it. I just need to get some decent bearings to replace the "Duds" I've got now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yessir, I do have some insight. Take the arbor and bearings to a reputable auto parts store, maybe even a heavy duty shop that works on big trucks(semis) and they will be able to size and source the correct ones through SKS or Timken or the likes. :) Be well and I hope this answered your question.

@@MakinSawdust As luck would have it, I came across a saw that had been in storage for years. Nearly brand new.!!! I thought it was well worth the price considering the condition it was in. I rolled my older saw to the back of the shop until I can sell it with the caveat of the issues about the arbor and rear bearing. I did have Timkens ordered and called the supply house to cancel, but they said no problem we'll keep them in stock for someone else. What surprised me "Makin' Sawdust'' was the serial# of your saw.!!! #113.298762. Sir...the serial# on mine is #113.298761. Can you believe that.?? I worked 4-days straight on it and it purrs like a kitten. I have one question: What are those two Allen screws in the middle of the table for. My older saw didn't have these. I certainly appreciate your previous response by the way....I just forgot to mention it when I saw the serial #'s of the two saws. @@MakinSawdust I can see the blade is up and I did not see you disconnect the power. If you have to ask if something is unsafe after being told it is then you should sell the saw and all you tools. Because you are not qualified to operate them safely. Nor should you be teaching others. Table saws are VERY dangerous tools. I am a Professional Machinist and woodworker for over 35years. I still have all my fingers and no serious injuries because I practice safety procedures.
