This is a great beginner saw to teach you if your new to scrolling imo, because once you upgrade you will think your in heaven with a more expensive machine. You do need to modify the plate the pinless blade adapter because they will slide off at higher speeds and if you pull the work forward for any reason. Getting the blades into the adapter straight is a bit of a chore and if your using fine teeth make sure to check their direction when slipping the adapters on. Also the tension knob way in the back can be annoying but helps you learn the sound of a properly tensioned blade, it reminds me of tuning a guitar. The plastic removable blade plate could be stronger and wants to dip when working with tiny projects like 3d birds and animals. All this helps a beginner learn how to problem solve and practice techniques so that their next upgrade feels amazingly easier. Reminds me of using different grade musical instruments as you learn.

Ok I'm interested. But I'd hate to waste money buying the Harbor freight scroll saw. Then buy a Dewalt. Is it any good. Or is it going to make me work harder.
@monikasturm2575 Жыл бұрын
@@Blah-blah-sure I view it like they teach children instruments to play in band class. You practice and hone skills on a tougher machine then update with a better skill set and it's like playing a symphony.

You could rotate the blade 90deg and run a long piece through as long as it's no wider than 16 inch on the side towards the "throat" of the machine.

These type of scroll saws are you say an entry-level and ok to get you started. There are many saws like this all from the same factory just rebranded. I started with a similar style saw then upgraded to. Using the pinless blades with the adaptors can be a pain but you will work out ways to do to it. Most definitely bolt it down it will help with any vibration meaning you can stay at the saw longer and will help with finer cuts. If you learn how to use the spiral blades (some love them some hate them...) they take a bit to get used to and there is a learning curve. I use them and for fine detail work and straight blades straight lines and larger curves etc. Also you will be able to do slightly larger projects since you don't have to spin the whole project which can be limiting. I would pick up some sandpaper for the saw... and some very small fine files... for cleaning up any fretwork cuts. www.bearwood.com/scroll-saw-sanding-belts-by-pegas-saw.html However I upgraded to the Excalibur style saw (and even in the manual says that it is Excalibur) though branded as something else... and have never looked back... I really should do a review of my scroll saw peoples have been asking...

I bought a scroll saw from harbor freight in sept which was delivered as i was leaving for a plane flight. Now it is march and i watched your video and took it out of the box for thd first time to use and discovered that it is broken ! There is a screw and spring where the table? at its narrow end attached to the saw underneath. What can i do to still use it safely? It is past the 90 days. Can i remove the metal table and make one out of plywood that i also bolt in place on my work table??? Help

How easy is it to change the blades on this one? I saw another guy say that the blade holder falls off and it's not easy to insert the blade into a hole if you need to make those types of interior cuts. Your machine looks like HF fixed that issue. Is it easy to pop the blade off, push it through a hole, put the blade back on and continue cutting? Hopefully that made sense.

While cheap tools from China (less than US-made tools cost 60 years ago) make it almost foolish to build your own, building your own scroll saw is not difficult nor expensive. There are several youtube videos on building your own, using a sabre saw for the drive. You can use wood or pipe for the C-shaped frame. In previous decades, woodworkers who weren't wealthy had to build many of their own tools from discarded junk and it's good to see that some are still doing so today.

SAVE YOURSELVES!! BUY A 22"BAUER FROM HF INSTED!!!! I absolutely love my 22" Bauer. I had a Central Machinery scroll saw. What a waste of money and time. It was soooo loud i was deaf after using it and the vibration even though it was bolted down to a sturdy table and on a rubber mat, rattled my brains out. The plain end clamps are a pain in the hee haa. Trying to do frett work with those things would cause you to frett. Save yourselves a massive headache and upgrade to a Bauer. Its super quiet. It weighs 75 # so the vibration is minimal. It only takes plain end blades but it sooo easy to swap out blades. The arm swivels insted of the table so always cutting on a flat table. Speaking of tables its table is so BIG with a very smooth coating on the cast iron. I LOVE MY BAUER!!!
