I have the exact same size yard (really!). When grass is high and wet the makita 36v also requires 8 batteries. If the grass is bone dry and barely being cut then I can make it through with four. Makita’s 2/3 acre claim is plainly dishonest.

Four Makita batteries cost more than $500 on their own. Your mower was free.

I am heavily invested in Makita LXT also, so I thought my 1st cordless electric mower would be a Makita. I had been overlooking the series you chose in favor of the commercial versions, but as you said plastic is light and stronger than some might think. And my lawn is not large. However I have been spoiled by the convenience of an AWD Toro gas, so I still have a lot of debating to do. Thanks for all the great videos Robert.

Can only mow 5000 square feet of light cut thin grass with mine. 4 batteries needed. Nice and quiet, but won’t do half of what they say.

Electric mowers are for much smaller lots. I question why you would even consider electric for your needs. Not a helpful example at all.

I'm thinking of getting this mower. Good review. Thank you for going over your experience with it.

My lawn is about 2x the size of yours- I used the commercial non-self propelled Makita mower last year and just started mowing again last weekend. Basically it takes close to 3 hours to mow- but I'm doing it to be outside with my family and for exercise. When I don't have time and my lawn is over-grown, I'll bust out the rider for most of the lawn. So far, I like the mower, but my biggest compliant is my hands cramp up holding the safety bar- perhaps I can install a weaker spring? Anyway, Makita's battery life estimates are BS- I have a stack of 8 5ah batteries that I go through every week, while simultaneously charging pairs on 2 rapid chargers. When my lawn is long, I wouldn't be surprised if I did more than 6 battery swaps. I'm doing it for the exercise- hopefully the batteries don't crap out on me- but if they do, I'll consider building a LiFeP04 pack- around 20- 25ah in capacity.

Did you have a chance to replace a blade already? I cannot find it literally anywhere for the two months already

Definitely good info, Bent the crank on my 10 yr old Honda (which worked great and always started easy). Either look to get another Honda or go electric. I’m in the same boat as you with the Mikita 18v platform, so 4 more batteries will definitely help. If I go with Makita, will likely use your link. Any thoughts on this mower for chopping up bunches of dry leaves, we’re surrounded by lots of huge maple trees here.

The harder the mower has to work the shorter the battery life. It has plenty of power with fresh batteries. Unless your yard is tiny I would recommend sticking with a Honda engine mower. Of course if you just need/want the batteries go ahead 😁 I also have the 36v string trimmer and I love it. It can fully replace a gas trimmer with heavy use

Thinking switching from ryobi to another brand for lawn mower. Makita and kobalt are my top choices ^^

If you're just getting lawn equipment go with a dedicated lawn platform. The Makita is ok but the 54v and 60v dedicated systems are better for the task

Convenience is key. I'd love the no buy gas option but agree that battery changes are too much. TY for the review I'm about ready to make a purchase myself. Warren

I REALLY want to like Makita lawn mowers and electric lawn mowers in general. I have tons of LXT batteries free from past tool purchases. I just can't make myself buy Makita mowers because of results like yours. I am used to gas Toro mowers which cut pretty good and have a great user experience with the Personal Pace system. I just retired my Toro Super Recycler. I replaced it with a Honda. So I'm staying with gasoline for now.

100% agree. The best thing about this mower is it came with four batteries for the price of four batteries. Unless you have a tiny yard this mower just doesn't work. I still have it but now have a riding mower

Very good review! I was wondering if you know if this mower uses the same electric motor as the more expensive makitia 21in. I really would like this mower because it folds and I cut my parents and inlaws yard.

Hi. No it's not the same. the plastic ones do have brushed motors while the steel once have brushless. the runtime and strenght is a big step up for the steel ones. but so is the price... pro Vs diy. have a nice day.

This mower surprised me cuz I didn't think it could cut through knee-high grasses and weeds. I own 2 acres and 1/3 of the space is open. Now that the tall grass is gone, I'm going to use the mulch plug to maintain the height at the 5 setting from now on. So far, I'm happy with the investment.
