Great Jeremy thanks. It looks like the slotted part will slide through until you dismantle it.

I think using top bearing straight bit (also known as template bit) could solve problem with adjusting parallel fence
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
Could we please use correct terminology and not misinform on my channel. Bearing guided routing is a different technique to using a parallel fence and 'a top bearing bit' is not known as 'a template bit'. You are referring to a trimming cutter. GReat video Jeremey. Im very happy I found your channel. Are you the same guy who used do visiting lectures at Letterfrack.

Sorry I just read this comment a year later! Yes I was the first visiting lecturer at Letterfrack and my last visit was in 1993.

Just got mine and spent five minutes checking it out. I thought I was looking at it wrongly. Odd that the fence doesn't reach the cutter. It's a beautifully made tool, with this one strange design flaw. I would probably keep it as a plunge router as that's what I'm used to, and more control with two handles,but seems I'll have to add a piece to the fence. Shame.
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
Strange yes. As you can see in my video I have added a wooden spacer/facing strip to take up that gap.
@johnlratcliffe2 жыл бұрын
Yes I saw that. I will do similar but you shouldn't have to!
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
@@johnlratcliffe Yes I agree. It seems to be at odds with the general superb quality of this tool but I often ask the question who designs routers these days? There seems to be disconnected thinking. I could be very critical and say the on/off switch is awkward and calling it a trimmer is a huge marketing undersell. Clearly Makita hasnt read my 1989 book (now revised) called The Incredible Router. I have actuially offered the company my half century of routing expertise but no response whatsoever. In the old days I was always a phone call away from a major manufacturer Product manager. I will be doing a more thorough critique of this router exploring tasks other routers just cannot easily do. It is the one router out of my substantial collection I tend to use most of all now mainly because it is compact and cordless.

Finally got to use it today. Been using them for 35 years and I have to say it is wonderfully made but appallingly designed.
@jeremybroun86572 жыл бұрын
@@johnlratcliffe +I wouldnt quite agree with you that it is appallingly designed as I use this router now as my 'default' router for its convenience, size and weight but agree with you the fence is limited (which I modified) and the power switch is very awkward. Bring back the old-fashioned toggle switch.

Nice video, thanks. Are the bases interchangeable with the corded version RT0700?

Does anyone have an issue with the guide bushing it comes with not being centre to the bit or collet and know how to fix it? It goes off centre when i clip the lever down it looks like
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
Surprising to hear as this a well engineered tool. How much off centre? Mine isnt. Many routers have a guide bush that does not sit perfectly concentricly but it doesnt show in your work as usually just a small portion of the guide bush makes contact with the wood. This is a small tool with a small guide bush. Which of the sub bases are you using? Presumably you mean the clip lever on the sub base.
@tomc39652 жыл бұрын
@Woodomain - Jeremy Broun yes its the lever on the sub base. It is the guide bushing that fits between the black plastic base ad the aluminium. Once you un screw the plastic base you can see where the guide bushing sits. Its off centre to one side more than the other by .7mm I am using the standard round base it comes with
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
@@tomc3965 I must admit I have not used the trimming sub bases and have now just investigated the problem as I have the full kit. I am bewildered that the tiny pressed steel guide bush will not even fit into its recess and I cant find anything on KZbin showing the insertion. What stops it dropping out? The larger guide bush that is used with the plunging base seems fine on my router. I tend to use larger routers set up with guide bushes for specific template routing tasks. But this doesnt solve your problem. I can try emailing Makita as they sent me the full kit but dealing directly with these big companies is a nightmare nowadays. In the old days I was only a phonecall away from a product manager when I was in my hayday of writing woodworking books.
@tomc39652 жыл бұрын
@@WoodomainJeremyBroun even if you do call and someone did happen to answer they have no idea anway. You have to un screw the plastic black base on the sub base. There you will see the ring for the bushing to sit in. Once you place the bushing in you screw the black base back on as to sandwich the bushing in place. Let me know how you go
@WoodomainJeremyBroun2 жыл бұрын
@@tomc3965 Thanks for that! I should know but on work overload. Lucky I didnt title my video as a 'review'! When I have a moment I will check it out. Would it be an idea if the template is 'sandwiched' to grind a fraction off the lip and manually ajust to achieve a perfect concentric fit and leave the guide bush in there?
