Makita P05000C Does DA on this tool work well?

Makita Dual Action Random Orbit Polisher
Loving the review from Auto Fanatic on this tool but not loving people saying the DA function is basically worthless I did my own test. Is this tool really only good in forced rotation mode? To me it seems to have adequate power in DA mode.
I know I tested this in unusual conditions but my thinking a wood work bench is much rougher than any car, thus providing plenty of friction plus I used a Microfiber pad not a smooth foam pad.
What do you think?

Also note the direction of rotation. At 3:20 the tool only spins clockwise in both DA and Forced Rotation. However, for some unknown reason the tool spins CCW at 4:50 when in forced rotation mode. This tool has a mind of its own.

Ive had mine about a month now, only did one car with it. FR mode is insane, absolutely amazing. I do have issues with DA mode stalling on flat surfaces under its own weight. I saw several vids where it doesn’t, so Im not sure if mine is defective. I also cannot see it the washer mod fixing that. Also reviews said made in America, however mine that was bought off Amazon came in a brown box not green, with Japanese text and instruction manual

Thanks for the video! I got mine coming in the mail next week. My Flex 3401 is still good but runs too hot during the summer and it's time for an upgrade to a smoother machine that won't give the body such a workout.

Great video, I was wondering whicch way the plate rotated clockwise or counter clockwise.Can you shoot a video polishing your car & please add some dots on the backing plate so I can see the rotation as you're polishing. I have seen different videos & some state it rotates counter clockwise but it's hard to tell. I own a dual mode Bosch sander that spins counter clockwise in forced rotation & a Chinese Flex 3401 copy that is forced rotation only but also spins counter clockwise. Only the Rupes Mille spins clock wise & this unit. Thanks, Vince.

hello sean horgan !! Please tell me if your machine also stops at speed 4 and 5, in mode orbital free,especially at speed 5, because in the vast majority of reviews they mention that it stops at speed 1,2,3,4 but at speed 5? it stops but the noise from the makita polisher is hellish / unbearable! Please tell me the results, and if the noise emitted at speed 5 free orbital rotation is really hellish / unbearable, thank you !!

RoRuffRyder Yes, still going strong. Yes, does a great job from heavy cutting to finishing. All depends on your pads and liquids. I almost always keep unit on Fixed Rotation. That is where this unit shines. If you only want DA then there are probably better buffers. Have you seen AutoFanatic’s youtube review? Overall this is a great tool.

@@marqkey5063 Yeah Makita is bullet proof. I removed the backing plate. expose the metal shroud with the 3 screws. remove the 3 screws to remove the shroud. place small washers under the shroud by each screw hole and then screw it back together. in the backing place, you place another washer and then reassemble and you have it. i think the problem is the mold for the metal shroud is causing the resistance in some of the models.

@cowcheese1983 5 жыл бұрын
@@marqkey5063 i'm figuring they updated the model for the shroud with your unit, which means makita listened. it would be awesome if they sold the updated shroud(if they did) separately. This machine cuts and finishes proper man

Thank you for the video. Now putting the stalling issue to rest, the biggest question is its 5.5mm throw. What matters is it’s cut and finish in real world. I feel a side by side comparison of cut and finish with say a rupes da will be ideal. Hope to see this comparison. Thank you.
@marqkey5063

Jeff Ho I don’t have any Rupes machines, except I like their pads. I’ve used a few of their polishers and don’t see a reason to buy. The more I use this Makita I tend to set it to forced rotation and see great results. I think results come down to pad and product selection. This unit is very high quality. I actually prefer the short throw over the machines with the much bigger throws.

@davidbee8178
@davidbee8178 4 жыл бұрын
@@marqkey5063 you are right in my opinion to feel that way. It may take a little longer to do a panel but the result with a smaller throw is more often than not superior to machines with 15 and 21 mm throws, all things being equal

@Fee.1 2 жыл бұрын
@@marqkey5063 why do you prefer forced rotation if it never stalls in normal mode?
@Torus2X
@Torus2X 2 жыл бұрын
@@Fee.1 because with forced rotation, you are getting extremely consistent action on the pad. In non-forced, like with any buffer, as you move around the action is not always consistent.

Hello Brother! I just subscribed, The comments about what stops I have read or heard them in speed one, two, three and sometimes four but in speed five they comment that it does not stop but the polisher makes a quite loud noise, and they prefer not to use it in free orbital rotation mode, and better they switch to forced rotation mode, to stop hearing that "infernal" noise; Please do the test at speeds 1,2,3 and try to stop the pad, of course in free rotation mode Thank you !!!

hello hello brother! I hope you can make a comparison between this Makita polisher and the DeWalt DCM848 polisher because MANY people speak well of both, of course they speak well of the makita PO5000 polisher but in forced rotation mode by gears, I hope you can do it because I have searched a lot for a video of this comparison, NOBODY has done it yet, you would be the first, Thank you very much !!!
