I was lucky to find a used one when I moved to Mexico. Love it

Hi Gio, had mine for quite a few years now, the only thing I’ve altered is the base work plate, mine came with a round one and I’ve made a square one makes such a difference for accuracy Great channel, looking forward to my geckoblocs when they’re available here in the uk All the best to you both for very interesting entertainment, cheers

Thanks Gio. I probably need to upgrade from working on the kitchen table before I invest in a router LOL

We have those at work but the battery version and they are great little trim routers for all the tasks you mentioned as well as laminate trimming and the angle base is an added bonus highly recommended 👍

Very cool to see a "long term professionally used" video of a power tool. If you have any other "mainstay" tools, showcase them, too! Way back when, when I was installing modular office furniture all of us got their cordless drills. They make really good electric motors.

@@calbrockocat8728 thanks Cal, I have a whole range of tools I’m planning to do these for. And yes, they do make excellent motors 👍

I have one of these that I bought second hand. Other than having to tighten the adjustment mechanism (only had to do it once) I've had zero issues. Great little router.

Same issue! it's a minimal thing and an easy fix.

I bought this router a couple years ago. Mine just came with the plunge base and trim base. i absolutely adore this tool! i plan to get two more, just so i don't have to change bits three times when doing a body. I don't use it for routing the body outline, just the cavity routs and bevels. But it sure does a great job at those tasks!
@BenchCritters12 күн бұрын
That's exactly what I did. 3 trim routers and 2 big plunge routers. It is such a time saver having more than one.

@@BenchCritters , Yes! It's a must. I have my large router mounted in the side table of my tablesaw. That is used for the main body shape. Everything else is done with the small trim router setup.

Nice review Gio! I don’t have the Makita, but I have an off brand copy of the Makita that works pretty well, but when it dies I will upgrade to the Makita.

Good review. I do not personally own any Makita tools but I am aware of their quality. One of my cousins used to have a set of different battery powered tools I don't remember just which ones for sure but I know he had the drill, a light, and a small circular saw. They were a very early set that had some round or at least semi-round battery packs. When new they were great for the things he was using them for As they aged and the batteries aged they got weaker and got to a point where they would barely hold a charge. They were old enough by that time the batteries had been redesigned and no longer ably to find but he used them for a good 7 to 10 years if I remember correctly. I really miss my cousin Patrick. He passed away almost 3 years ago now.

@@robertr4193 I’m sorry to hear that. And yes the early battery powered tools didn’t have the same kind of longevity. I’ve found my modern 18v batteries to be very resilient to degradation and great at holding a charge.

Awesome review Gio. Hope all is well for you across the pond. Have you ever had to change the brushes in the motor during that time? I bought my first trim router after much research with reviews on the internet vs price as you know my financial status. The off name brand I got is an up and coming company that makes many different shop level tools and I found it interesting they sent spare brushes. Is that something I should worry over as I get more into power tools?
@BenchCritters11 күн бұрын
@@borgonianevolution Thanks Bill, all is peachy over here! It’s great that they sent spare brushes and actually I’ve been very lucky there, to date I’ve never had to replace them. As with most things the more off brand go, the more aware you need to be about being able to replace parts if there’s issues, but honestly there are very few power tools now that you can’t get standard replacement part for. I get what you mean about budget, it’s always a balancing act and trade off. I try to budget according to use so the most used tools I’ll budget more for. The occasional tools I’ll consider going cheaper if it’s a stretch financially. 👍
