NeHercules it is when you gain a passion for your captor(s) and will do anything to help them, including becoming anything they want you to be. In this case both Lapis and Jasper were affected which is very rare if even impossible for it to happen to us humans. Jasper showed this severly by saying she wanted to fuse just once more, for at least a little bit. Lapis was heavily affected so much as to succumb to Jasper and fuse in the first place. Only after Lapis sees she has more control she hides them both in the ocean as Jasper then goes through the syndrome and is very much affected by it as she, an all powerful warrior gem, succumbs to a Lapis, a lowly pearl-like thing ment to be used and abused and is worthless for anything else.

Jasper is really a sad character. She had one purpose, Pink, and she died. Then her chance to get a seblence of closure was taken not once, not twice, but three times: Rose not existing anymore to be killed, then peace between Earth and the Diamonds stopping her from even being allowed to revenge on Earth itself, and then Steven even refusing to be "her Diamond". She just can't win.

I honestly thought this song was gonna be focusing more on Lapis Lazuli and how she's part of a fusion of suffering and hate towards each other. I imagined it being about Lapis slowly losing what sanity and happiness she had left, rejecting all even Steven just to at least try to control Malachite. Being about her self sacrifices to keep Steven and only Steven safe. A powerful gem like Lapis able to take on 3 strong gems at the same time, even with her gem cracked at the time, would sacrifice any chance she could've with joining the gems, and exchanging it too guarantee Steven's safety.

Ah. That was always one of the most fascinating and impression-leaving part of the show, and one that spawned metric tons of fanart so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that even fan-music turned up. And it's such a GOOD one, too, my exact taste with th mid-200s esque Numetal/industrial vibe but still referencing the masterful musical motifs from show proper (Such as Jasper manifesting as angry synths) This is ALL I could ever want and more. You did such a good job at capturing the atmosphere of that moment in 'cille tid'and trying to work out the (increasingly blended) voices of the characters, not jut in your singing but also by the variations in the instrumental. ...Also, part of me *really wants to request a Jasper song* now that we have her backstory and motivations. (and man, did 'Beta' and 'Earthlings' fuck me up with the surprising character depht and giving everything a different spin in hindsight.We can now kinda imagine the places her mind would wander during the constant struggle)
