Lost my mom unexpectedly in 2020 after having surgery, I had just found out I was pregnant with her first grand child. I gave birth during COVID, I felt so alone, even with the father of my son there. I fought depression, anxiety, being cheated on postpartum and body dysmorphia. It’s been a hard 4 years, when I tell you it was nobody BUT GOD, that kept me from crashing out. When I tell you I had a praying mother who introduced me to God young, and I thank her. I used to be so embarrassed as a child when she would drive in the neighborhood w| the windows down blasting gospel. At 34, I get it . I truly get, I miss you mommy.

This song hit different now. I lost my husband to Covid in August of 2020. I'm a widow with 5 daughters. Needless to say, our family is devastated. My heart is beyond broken, but it still beats. And as long as there's a beat in my heart, there will always be a place in my heart for my husband. I take comfort in knowing that he rests in our Father's kingdom and that he will never have to endure pain and suffering again. I didn't know that. My husband watched him and tried to sing with him while he was dying from prostate cancer. He watched him every Sunday morning as we struggled to get him dressed to go preach the gospel. He preached with all his strength until he passed away in November of 2015. Holy men of God never give up , they continue to praise the Lord with their last breath. He squeezed my hand and said, "Celebrate with me, I'm going to get my crown of life." Thank you, Jesus for these great examples of faith! I still listen and remember him, now I will picture both of them talking together in the kingdom!

I listen to this song at least 5 times a week along with Grace and Mercy. Because i know its God's grace and mercy that has brought me thus far. And I want to be near the cross. Back in 2009 I flipped my truck over 4 times and God spared my life. I came out of it only with a cut wrist. Praise God. My husband has come through 2 strokes, heart failure and prostate cancer. My oldest sister had a stroke thank God she's okay. She lost her 2 children 9 minths apart, then her friend passed away 1 year later. My oldest brother had a stroke left him bed ridden 4 years ago Thank God he's still her. My youngest brother had a stroke and almost went into a diabetic coma and a middle sister had a stroke. But the bad news is my youngest sister Dorothy Love she passed on 9/11/15 twenty minutes after we finished talking on the phone. So God's grace and mercy is what bring me and my family through. My mother was the pianist & organist for our birth church, Newstead Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. where I grew up. She had me & my sister. Lucy sing in the Ladies Chorus at the Lucy age of 10 yrs & me 13 yrs. We didn’t 😮sing in the young people choir. So, we sang in the Ladies Chorus until we graduated from high school & went off to Lincoln University. We sang this song “Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross” which was one of her favorite & mind now. With all the challenges, disappointments, chaos, inhumanity, corruption, unjust, disobedience, scams......(the list can go on and on) that is going on in this world today, I have made this song my signature song. I play this song every morning before I get my day started. The way this song is being sung by the Mississippi Mass Choir is very Soul Stirring and Bone Chilling. It sometimes brings tears of joy to my eyes because it makes me think of the Goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for me which makes me cry out Glory Hallelujah and I thank God for saving a wretch like me.
