How to Reach Malarikkal:- At the Illickal junction in Kottayam, turn left to the Thiruvarppu road. You could reach Malarickal via Kanjiram Boat Jetty road after the Kanjiram bridge. If you are coming from Kumarakom side, then turn right to the Thiruvarppu road at Illickal.

For the local people, the yearly blooming of water lilies was a regular phenomenon. However, it won the attention of outsiders in 2019 after some of the visitors posted pictures and videos of the region on social media platforms. While the earlier practice was to clear the flowers for the fields and make them conducive for farming, now the people are actively reaping dividends from it by helping tourists enjoy the sight through boat rides, selling them bunches of flowers, making arrangements for shoots and more.
The main concern now is tourists plucking the lilies which is ruining the beauty of the place. So, if you are visiting Malarikkal enjoy responsibly and don't pluck the flowers.
