The Malaysian government has changed after the recent election. Therefore, projects that are beneficial to the rakyat are revived and reviewed again. The new transport minister is gathering proposals from private entities instead, which is a good move in terms of financial cost.

Even expats will settle their families in KL with cheaper international school fee and lower cost of living. And the husband can commute daily to Singapore to work

I worked on a US rail project as an engineering consultant. I was not very impressed with the abilities and integrity of some firms on the American side. For example, you can look at Honolulu and see the rail project was a disaster. The design integration was so lacking that wheel flanges and track switches were incompatible. Embarrassing. You can look at California High Speed Rail and see where firms enriched themselves off government contracts. Terrible. I pray that this project is extremely well managed. ETS at 140km/h is far more feasible and cost effective, while its rail is cheaper to maintain and it can be used to transport passengers and cargo. Furthermore, it needs no extra land acquisition. On the other hand, building cost of any mega infrastructure including HSR is always under estimated. Maintaining HSR is costly and the economy spillover effect is exaggerated. We have less extra fund to develop the country if the HSR is leaching our national piggy bank for the next few decades. I hope the decision maker can think throughly before they make decision.
