The Prime Minister of Malaysia has revealed that he had a hand in designing the country's first homemade mini-van.
Unveiling the vehicle in Kuala Lumpur Friday, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he'd re-shaped the front of the new Perodua Rusa to make it more visually appealing.
Dr Mahathir is a leader who takes a close personal interest in economic developments.
Just back from the Bangkok Asia-Europe summit and about to embark on a trip to Vietnam, the energetic premier launched Malaysia's new all-purpose vehicle - half-car and half van - made in partnership with Japan.
The Perodua Rusa is aimed to be the cornerstone of Malaysia's developing motor industry.
The Prime Minister touched off the launch by pointing a special laser-powered glove at the stage.
Amidst smoke and flashing light, Malaysians saw the car for the first time.
The Premier climbed behind the wheel - and adjusted his seatbelt.
The new car costs around 62,000 US dollars and is designed to compete with the existing star of the Malaysian motor industry - the Proton.
