Malaysia risks being net importer of oil, gas without energy transition: Economy minister

Malaysia's Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli says the country has reached a critical inflection point in its energy needs, beyond which it risks becoming a net importer of oil and gas. He also defended the government's move to cut domestic fuel subsidies as a key part of fiscal consolidation and energy transition. Mr Rafizi shares more with CNA's Olivia Siong on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Dalian, China.

Since this is the first time ever, it’s a test pilot that needs to be endorsed. Of course it won’t be perfect and the government will need to study which other methods and options they can help Rakyat. Sabah/Sarawak is another that we have to work on, it seems that it won’t be a clear cut as they have different jurisdiction and law that need to be consider and maybe government willing to hands off for a little short while and focus on peninsular. Expected additional cost to the Malaysian economy is 1. $10 billion in software, IT services to the 1.6 million enterprises, 2. $10 billion more in labour needs, or data entry staff, 80 million e-invoice with 1.0 billion entries daily, 365 billion entry annually. Suddenly DBKL, MBPJ & MBSJ are removing street stall from the streets, I do not have feedback in other municipalities. We could have riots from 1.2 million micro enterprises with revenue less than $360,000. Yet, not a whimper of noise by politicians. I must be missing something here. 🤣💬☝️

All loking good in interview and paper but a flop during execution of the plan. Purchasing power of citizen has dropped, slowing down our economy. To be honest, post National Energy Transition Road Map(NETR) look at the data centres that just announced. Capacity also build for renewable energy supply and TNB stock price have move from RM8.20 to RM14. I don’t see what you mean by formula ?! He is Economic Planning Unit EPU, so of course he has to plan ahead for the country, execution is the respected Ministry such as PETRA, DPM Fad.

Malaysian GOVERNMENT is an oil revenue government. The moment foreign countries start their CARBON TAX, Malaysia government will suffer and will not be able to give so much comfort to their citizens. Now is just the beginning with diesel subsidy control, malaysians dare to say they cannot cope. Malaysia could be in serious trouble if it cannot move away from oil economy. Their previous government that overlooks meritocracy will come back to haunt them, as most developed nations depend on human capital to grow their economy, NOT OIL. Korea, Singapore, Germany etc.
