Visiting Malaysia’s border with Singapore and spend a day at an island right on the border to Singapore
Welcome to episode 97 of my trip all around Malaysia. If you haven’t seen the previous episodes you can watch them here:
➡️ • Traveling Malaysia - A...
Time for another Malaysian border video. After visiting the Malaysia - Thailand border a few weeks ago, this time we are right on the Malaysia’s border with Singapore. The Malaysia Singapore border is in the middle of the sea here, as Singapore is basically an island. We are visiting Malaysia’s most southern island - Tanjung Surat - with is right at the border to Singapore. You can actually see Singapore from the island. Being in Malaysia’s most southern state Johor at the moment is quite interesting and cool. I always like to visit border regions, its always interesting to see for me. So on my Johor trip I had to also visit Malaysia’s border with Singapore.
Huge thanks to the Johor tourism office, who organized this experience. If you are interested in a similar trip, you can contact them here: / tourismjohor
I am currently traveling Malaysia - all around the country - and try to find as many hidden gems and stories as possible. I am going to stay in the Johor state for around two weeks, so if you are interested in more Johor vlogs, Malaysia vlogs in general, stay tuned for more.
Timestamps:
00:00 At the jetty
01:01 Boat ride to the border
03:40 Arriving on the island + breakfast
06:27 This man builds his own tree house here
15:17 Martial arts performance + learning it
19:56 First time trying sea cucumber
22:51 Exploring the mangroves
---------------------------------------
After the Corona Lockdown, it is now possible again to travel Malaysia. In the next weeks I will travel Malaysia (all around the country) and make daily vlogs about it. I will show you how to travel Malaysia, how to do backpacking Malaysia and show you what it's like to solo travel around this country in southeast Asia. So, if you are interested in backpacking southeast Asia in general or specifically interested in backpacking Malaysia, then this series of my Malaysia travel vlogs might be interesting for you.
How is it to travel Malaysia after the Corona lockdown? Will there be tourist or will I be the only one? How to travel Malaysia on a budget during this time? We are going to find out all of this in the upcoming weeks, daily vlogs from now on, documenting my whole trip traveling Malaysia, so stay tuned, if you are interested in travel Malaysia by yourself or travel southeast Asia in general 😊

Ken, most of us Malays don't eat the sea cucumber too... It's an animal, not vegetation, despite it's name. The smell is yucky. However, nothing could beat sea cucumber in healing cuts and bleeding.. trust me. Be it external or internal bleeding, you'll heal very fast, and if you're careful, it'd heal without scar....

I really enjoyed watching this. I am so much impressed and have so much respect for the old retired man. He was an army serving the country. Now retired, he serves the mangrove , collecting rubbish from the area , plant mangrove trees. Am so proud of him. What a good man. Wish more people do like him.

I love how you are showing and experiencing all facets of life, food & culture in Malaysia. Yr first lesson in martial arts was quite good and graceful, especially for someone as tall as you. lol. Don't feel bad about sea cucumber. I don't care for it either. It is gelatinous, tasteless and expensive. Credit to yr Johor touring group who are professional, knowledgeable, proficient in language/culture, and pleasant in demeanor and humor.

The leaf used to wrap the nasi lemak is called "simpuh" leaf (scientific name: Dillenia suffruticosa). In Sarawak, the indigenous people use that leaf to wrap jungle vegetables which they sell in the market. Some indigenous people there also use it to steam fish by wrapping fish with some herbs and seasoning and grill it on slow/small fire or amber. Nice one on the "silat". 👏👏👏

Mangroves is one of the natural barrier to protect lands from tsunami waves. Some islands in Andaman Sea, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh did not suffer with huge fatality because the mangroves saved them.

From not eating seafood to eating sea cucumber, you have overcome the psychological barrier of mind over matter. Sea cucumber is a mollusc, and a Chinese delicacy in Chinese banquet. If ever you are in town, you can savour the Chinese dish of braised sea cucumber with broccoli & mushroom. Only the Chinese cooking will bring up the exotic taste of sea cucumber. Bon appetite.
