I am about 25 percent thru second book, Deadhouse Gates, and while loving it I am struggling with his jumpy style. Often find myself wondering what just happened. But I will press on. Maybe. My biggest complaint is not being able to even find the books. Where?! I dont want ebook and the paperback font is way to small for my 62 year old eyes. Got couple of those off Amazon because have no book stores where I live. And no one publishes the books anymore in anything but mass paperback. Soooooo frustrating. I feel like if you discovered this author late, you are screwed. I may bail simply because of inability to find books in format that readable. Dont want ebook because do not want to be dependent on electronics that once broken, leave you with nothing. Not sure I will proceed past book 2 in original series. As for this series, I can find them but gimmie a break, book one is $16 in hardback and then book 2 is $43!!!!!Full size paperback is $33. Just looked on Amazon right now. WTH! For such a well liked author, the acquiring of the books is absolutely ridiculous. Done ranting, but you earned my sub with good discission and your passion for the books

Glad you’re loving the series, I find that if you can make it through book 3 you get pretty accustomed to Erikson’s writing style and it’s less jarring

I am currently about a third through DhG (giant green hand etc). Unfortunately, I had to click away from this video because you mentioned aspects of the main series would be spoiled even in the non-spoiler section. I was wondering however, where you would rank this book (tGiNW) in terms of your tier list from a previous video? Also, I have the same question regarding NoK (i.e. its position on the tier list).

I understand, thanks for the support regardless! How are you liking DhG so far? I'm curious what you think of the series as whole so far as well? I'd rank tGiNW pretty high in terms of BotF, but need some time away from it as I think there's a fair amount of recency bias involved. Think it'd be somewhere in B tier. NoK although I liked that book it doesn't quite compare to BotF as BotF sets the bar VERY high. In that sense it'd have to be at the bottom of the tier list. Once I get through all of the ICE novels, Kharkanis and Erikson's short stories I'll do a combined Malzan tier list that has everything :)

@@blabberingbookreviews3349 I am absolutely loving the series so far. Gardens was more explosive in its first and last thirds where I felt more like a fly on the wall watching all the cool things happening, whereas Deadhouse seems to be more grounded and introspective in terms of the journeys of the pov characters in it (atleast till the point I have read), and I feel like I am inside their heads quite a bit more than the first book. The worldbuilding in both books is top-notch. Though I must say, I like the setting/feel of Darujhistan (with its blue-green aura around the city, and the sort of entirely different world that exists on the rooftops at night) a bit more than the dry, treacherous and rotting (for the lack of a better word) environs of the Seven Cities; but I suppose Erikson built the world in the second book on purpose to feel so desolate and harsh, and I can absolutely get behind that decision. In terms of score, I would give GotM a 8.5/10. DhG is currently at a 8.75-9/10 for me, and I am looking forward to seeing how it ends.

Glad you're liking it so much! You have such great takes on both books, I'm excited to hear your thoughts as you continue to make your way through the series!
