Good tier list. I’m on HoC currently and it actually may be my favorite so far. That may change on reread one day but so far my only reread is Gardens of the Moon and my second read made a huge difference in my enjoyment certainly of that book and appreciation of this series so far!

@@jch5150 Yeah gardens of the moon feels like a totally different book on a reread. I’ve been loving my reread of GOTM so far. And HoC feels totally unique compared to the rest of Malazan, seeing as it’s primarily from the perspective of one character (karsa orlong) who’s one of my favorite characters in the whole series. If you like HOC, after you’re done with MOBTF you’ll love the god is not willing, so that gives you something to look forward to! What did you think of memories of ice? Personally, that’s my favorite book of all time.

I've read the series once so far. I find all the books tend to blend in my memory. All things considered the 8th book is my favorite.

Nice! And I can relate to all the books blending together lol. That’s one of the reasons I started my re-read of it

I just re-read Gardens of the Moon and found it incredibly strong, though not without flaws.

“Beak, can you hold your own in what’s to come?' A low murmuring reply: 'Yes sir. You’ll see. Everyone will because you’re all my friends and friends are important. The most important thing in the world. And I’ll show you.” ― Steven Erikson, Reaper's Gale

Just finishing reapers gale and like you I suspect this may be the greatest series I have ever read. Although now I’m getting towards the end of the story I’m starting to feel a bit sad. Post series depression is definitely a thing. Before starting malazan I read all of the first law books which are also fantastic so I’m feeling very spoiled as a fantasy reader.

Yes I can relate to the post series depression. Feel like I went catatonic after i finished Malazan. I just didn’t know what to do with myself lol

I am partial to the 7cities trilogy but TtH takes the top seat, this has changed throughout my re-reads.

I am on my reread of MBoF and reading Esselmont books for the first time. I am on book 8 of MBoF and read the first 3 of Esselmont books. My advice to read them in order of how they happen in the Malazan world as reading those Esselmont will help pick some really nice connection in Erekson books. Read night of knives after book 1 and definitely before House of Chains. Return of the crimson guard after the Bone hunters. Stonewelder after Reaper’s Gale.

Great video! But your pronounciation of ”Malazan” kills me. Rome, Roman. Malaz, Malazan.😁
