Maybe some good arguments?
@teenanguyen217
@teenanguyen217 3 жыл бұрын
@@timmcgrath9708 From what I gathered in regards to the arguments, News Corp is able to, based on the accounts by the former prime ministers of Australia, able to influence society using media channels to push their agenda onto the political and public domains to influence public opinion by effect of a media echo chamber. By negating alternative opinions and using their monetary influence to limit news choices and news media diversity, they also push a biased agenda that can be evidenced, by you and me, simply by looking at all their news articles relevant in the argument to date. And compare it to other competing news sources, analysing the headlines, the articles covered, the positions that editors take and the sort of news that is being promoted and the constant attacking of this and that side or culture clearly showing that News Corp does not engaged in or concerned with the fair depiction of political and cultural news. News Corp is arguably a monopoly and its difficult to ascertain. But News Corp's influence is perhaps best articulated by one of its former senior executives. "News Corp has no influence with the public but an acute influence with politicians," says Kim Williams, who ran News Corp in Australia between 2011 and 2013. News Corp is the country’s biggest newspaper owner when taking into account the amount of mastheads it owns and how many people read them. Its titles include national broadsheet The Australian and Sydney's The Daily Telegraph, Melbourne’s Herald Sun, Brisbane’s The Courier Mail and Adelaide’s The Advertiser. But it isn’t just the large capital cities where News Corp has a big audience - it has a newspaper in nearly every state and territory, owning the major newspaper in the Northern Territory, The NT News, and Tasmania’s Mercury as well as a large number of online suburban and regional titles. And it runs Australia’s second-biggest digital website, news.com.au, according to August figures from measurement provider Nielsen. News Corp is also the controlling shareholder of pay TV company Foxtel; and it owns 24-hour channel Sky News in Australia. Sky's mostly conservative commentators include Alan Jones and Peta Credlin. Some of Sky’s coverage appears on free-to-air regional channel WIN. And Nova Entertainment, the radio network that broadcasts Nova FM and Smooth FM across Australia, is a privately run company owned by Rupert Murdoch’s eldest son, Lachlan. There is only one other commercial news organisation that has scale comparable to News Corp in Australia - Nine Entertainment Co, the owner of this masthead. Nine, which bought Fairfax Media in 2018, owns the Nine television network; The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, The Australian Financial Review, streaming platform Stan and radio stations such as 2GB in Sydney, 3AW in Melbourne and 4BC in Brisbane. National broadcaster the ABC is the third major player through television, radio and the nation's most visited website. Like News Corp and Nine, it has a footprint that gives it the ability to communicate with the majority of the population daily. Now you surely must have a better argument to refute these arguments, I would love to hear it because I also want to believe in the truth. I don't want to be told lies by politicians and media and you might know something that I do not based on your disagreeement that these arguments are not good. Why are they not good?

@teenanguyen217
@teenanguyen217 3 жыл бұрын
@@timmcgrath9708 You do know how an argument works right? I hope I have made it clearer for you. If you actually read it and dissected it, you will see my argument as clear as day. Step 1: Make a claim. Step 2: Provide evidence to back up that claim. This is my argument; 1: News Corp is able to influence society using media channels to push their agenda onto the political and public domains to influence public opinion by effect of a media echo chamber. By negating alternative opinions and using their monetary influence to limit news choices and news media diversity, they also push a biased agenda. 2: Evidence includes, two former prime ministers stepping out to give a statement in regards to their time and experience in government office, in relation to their dealing with this perceived media bias. Evidence includes the news articles that they have published as far back as 2012, detailing the biases or one sided opinion on issues such as climate change, cultural and political opinions, anti-china etc as a strong and recurring political agenda. Evidence also includes News Corp's sheer size and the lack of comparable competiton in traditional media in comparison to the other similar, alternative news sources. This is basically calling out on News Corps' lack of diversity in their media coverage, basically biased journalism whether there is an agenda or not, if you go through their articles or watch their news you can clearly see that these media sources are moderately to strongly biased towards conservative causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. To maintain objectivity in journalism, journalists should present the facts whether or not they like or agree with those facts. Objective reporting is meant to portray issues and events in a neutral and unbiased manner, regardless of the writer's opinion or personal beliefs. Once again, I hope I have made it clearer for you. Why do you disagree with these arguments? Can you show me cases where News Corp newspapers give equal coverage of left leaning political ideas or articles? Or is there a news media outlet which has more influence that News Corp ie via the internet or some other? Please, clarify your ideas for me.

Turnbull is just a jughead. All he wants is to bring down the LNP. If Peter Dutton didn't call out Malcolm Turnbull when he did and replaced him with Scott Morrison as PM, Bill Shorten would now be in the top Job as the PM...Can you imagine if the ALP were running the country during these uncertain times what a mess we'll be in with 374 billion tax bills policies the ALP wanted to bring in?

@@benjaminfalzon4622 yeah I could, instead of the pandemic causing the largest redistribution of wealth to the top 1% we would actually have something like proper centrelink support and an economy that recovered much more quickly because labor have plans for disasters, like the GFC, which probably didn't even cross your radar because we had a competent labor government in at the time (funily enough, the same guy spear-heading this media inquiry). Taxing the rich properly is the best way to secure a more equitable future for the middle and lower classes, as that provides better Medicare, centrelink and public education which under liberals always suffer.

During the GFC, Labor didn't spend money, they just wasted money, This pandemic is here to stay so don't kid yourself, that Labor has better policies than the LNP. Thank God that this pandemic didn't come along when the ALP was in government, this pandemic is a global pandemic not just an Australia's pandemic, there isn't any government on this planet, nor any amount of money, that has any policies that can fix this problem. This is going to get worst, much worst, This pandemic is many times worst than the GFC, in fact, this pandemic will finally lead to a global recession which will then trigger WW3, and the end of the world as we know it... @@benjaminfalzon4622 It doesn't really matter what you think, since the best economists in the world have praised Rudd's government for their actions to mitigate the GFCs impact in this country. Their reaction has become a blueprint to reaction during a economic disaster, the same one that NZ followed during the start of COVID, the one that made them one of the best off during this pandemic, by the way, an NZ Labour prime minister. Check the OECD ranking of our country then VS now. If you want more proof, feel free to notice the national debt that's more than tripled since Labor left power. Rudd left power because he was polling badly, due to mistakes and public smearing from the media. you're right, no policies will fix a virus but gutting the scientific community and increasing the burden on uni students (who become immunologists) is certainly not a step in the right direction. In saying that policy can absolutely mitigate damage, look at covid deaths in QLD vs NSW. Look at Vic vs NSW. Im a Labor party member, union member etc but i reckon Malcolm Turnbull was alright. Reasonable, focused on the future, not reactionary. And as someone who's main issue is the casualisation of the workforce, i do think he was the kind of guy who would hear me out. I just think the pressure from murdoch and the nuts like kelly, bernardi etc was just too great. Its a shame really. He tried to drag the party gently back to the centre right but people like abbott, hastie etc are the kind of people who don't go quietly into the night. They were never going to rest and were always going to come back with a vengeance. I reckon one of the most important years in australia's history is 1996. The year howard was elected. That was when we took a sharp turn to the right. It never happened in the 80s because we had hawke and keating. The us and britain had their sharp lunge to the right with reagan and thatcher. We opened up to the world under hawke and keating but did it with a heart. Superannuation, hecs, landcare, medicare etc. But in 1996 we began our march into a different era. The era of the culture wars. Dog whistling. I reckon when the tampa sailed into our waters the ultra right took notice, saw how the public reacted and saw that this was electoral GOLD. And so begin the culture wars with the murdoch empires help. Such a sad story. Under hawke and keating we achieved soooo much. And then we went back. So close, yet so far....

Honestly if he had spoken up when he was in power News Corp would've painted him as an evil villan not only in Australia but in the states and UK. That's just how persuassive, manipulative and powerful they really are. It is only now that Turnball and Rudd are speaking up because there are more Australian's finally waking up and realising what News Corp actually is. Besides the final discision comes down to the senate and not the prime minister, so there isn't much he could've done other than speak about it, which like I mentioned would've resulted in serious damage to his reputation and career by the media.

Honestly Carr, 1. "no accountability", means based on their impact on the discussion and people they are ELECTED to represent. 2 if you aim to discount the influence printed media, (housing university and industry institutionalised journalism) has on all other media streams, then perhaps the term 'silo' has found a new meaning.

Look. These royal commissions are great and very important (Aged Care, NDIS, Media Diversity etc). I am extremely relieved they are happening. Not that it is changing anything for me, apparently. Had my NDIS funding cut last year. Putting the onus on us as the public and the people giving evidence is rubbing me the wrong way. Like a guy rubbing himself against me, unwanted. Google journalism standards. Go talk to University lecturers on being a journalist. Google Sensitivity Consulting. Google Toxic Masculinity and shame, Google men protecting each other in a corporate/ media company. Google Snakes in Suits or The Psychopath Test. Actually listen to the tweets that are sent to ministers. Go over the letters, emails, contact forms, and phone calls that people have sent through our life times about needing to be heard and needing problems solved. Go look at the many, many reports and statistics reasearched and published by our community organisations in Australia. There are many, many reports, papers, lectures etc about being helpfully moral / moral in the media. Go look at the laws that have been requested from disability, rape councelling, QCOSS, housing coalitions, your own green and white papers about being honest and truth telling. Go read the summaries of community consultations that are either gathering dust or forgotten about from 10, 20 years ago. Go talk to community service providers interagencies, the Disability Commission, The UN Human Rights reports on Australia etc and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the deluge of information, policy recommendations, statistics, and personal stories about needing diversity shown in media. Go read research papers by economics students about why a monopoly isn't helpful for a community, let alone a country. Basically, there are many, many reports out there already. We don't need any more. We need action.

32:00 TV, radio and press are three separate and distinct forms of media, and the proprietors of one type should be *BARRED* from owning even a 0.00000000001% share in either of the other types of media. What's more, the commercial *networks* should be broken up, both the metropolitan and the regionals. Only ABC and SBS should operate as a network, all the commercial stations should operate *strictly* as stand-alone stations serving their market area with ownership residing strictly within that market area. Capital City stations(with the exception of Canberra-based stations, Canberra is a *regional* market, in spite of the federal capital being located there) should be *barred* from having translators except in conditions where topography prevents parts of a service area from receiving the station's signal. Regional stations shall have a maximum of 5 translators as they have a wider market to serve. Ownership should be *STRICTLY* ONE LICENCE PER PROPRIETOR IN ONE MARKET ONLY!
