@ben swanwick Your "facts" are irrelevant to the topic. You are using the same strategy that the Murdoch press uses constantly: distraction.
@bentonlewis9443 жыл бұрын
@ben swanwick I didn't mention how I feel about Rudd, because it's not relevant to the topic, which is whether the Murdochs have a media monopoly, and whether that monopoly is harmful to Australian democracy. That's the thing about facts: they're still facts no matter how we feel about the person presenting them. Tippy Magoo made a clever comment about the strategy of the Murdoch-affiliated Journalists, who didn't address the topic of Rudd's presentation, but confronted him on controversies from his time as PM. Perhaps you were trying to refute that comment, but you actually supported it, by making a point completely irrelevant to the topic, just as those journalists did. Also, you didn't supply facts; you said "many young Australians died installing" the batts, but that's an exaggeration. Four men died: Matthew Fuller, Rueben Barnes, Marcus Wilson, and Mitchell Sweeney. That's a tragedy, certainly, and there was a Royal Commision about it which found the Rudd Government responsible, but why exaggerate it? Why mention it at all in relation to the topic of media ownership, unless you want to demonstrate the only rebuttal Murdoch rags and coalition politicians like Morrison have to the commonly-held belief that the the Rudd government's strategy to combat the GFC was effective: "Pink batts, pink batts, pink batts". And on your other point, the ABC has a Charter and can be held to account for failing adhere to it, unlike the Murdoch media. Another argument one could make, if the ABC does in fact lean to the left, is that it slightly balances the avalanche of misinformation, disinformation, and blatant propaganda produced by Murdoch media.
@bentonlewis9443 жыл бұрын
@ben swanwick Many is defined as a large number, and I don't consider 4 a large number, but that's semantics, and doesn't change the fact that the 4 deaths were tragic, unnecessary, and the responsibility of the Rudd government, which was the conclusion of the Royal Commission. And the Home Insulation Program was part of the Rudd Government's strategy to counter the GFC, and was rolled out, too quickly, to stimulate the economy and create jobs, to combat the GFC. These are facts, easily checked, but still not relevant to the topic. If you're not interested in Murdoch why are you commenting on this video, which is primarily focused on the Murdoch media monopoly? Do you just look for any opportunity to criticise Rudd about what he did as PM? That's your choice, of course, but it's certainly not hurting Rudd. "Failed PM" he might be, but he seems to be doing pretty well for himself. Rudd made mistakes, and there are many people that hate him on both sides of politics, but that doesn't mean the points he's making are wrong. As I understand it, based partly on my limited understanding of Matt Taibbi's journalism on the topic, the reason that media organisations in the States are so polarised is that they figured out it makes them more money, . The more they push extremes, the more people tune in, and the more money they make, which is the main reason Murdoch media has pushed further and further to the right. It also helps that the politicians to the right of politics tend to support tax cuts for corporations more than those on the left, among other things. That said, at least in the States there are two sides to the news presented; somewhere in the middle there might actually be a few facts. And surely Australia can do better than the US, can't we, particularly in view of the recent history of that country? Surely there should be strong authorities that hold media accountable when they lie or attempt to pervert the democratic process, shouldn't there? If such authority was applied equally to the ABC, NewsCorp, Fairfax, and all media providers, enforcing quality journalism, wouldn't we all be better off? That is really the gist of Rudd's argument.

@@gregpericleous6687 What we need to do is start teaching linguistics in school. The study of language is incredibly important right now or we have no hope. They USE psychology & linguistics to corrupt everything. Some Northern European countries have figured this out & are teaching their kids now. The are shit scared of going through Fascist rule again.

At various times I have loved/not so loved Kevin07. I understand his Parliamentary colleagues found him difficult to work with/for, I don't know how much truth there was in that and how it could have been resolved, but with him, Julia, Bill, Albo and the absolute plethora of talented people in the ALP, had the electorate not been fed the diet of utter B/S by the Murdoch empire they would have transformed Oz for the better, I doubt whether Abbott, Turnbull or Morrison would have got a look in. I miss you Kev.

KEVIN FOR PM - a man who actually hears and understands Australian people.

Oh how I miss Kevin. And just for the record Julia Gillard is a corporate toady that was all in with the Obeid boys. Kevin has more integrity than Julia will ever understand let alone exhibit.

Julia Gillard had the integrity not to white-ant and leak maliciously against her own government after being deposed as leader and PM. She may have taken Rudd down, but she took advantage of Rudd’s declining popularity and panic in the back benches about the coming election. Rudd spent the next three years engineering the demise of Gillard. I don’t really care. I think they were going to lose in 2013 anyway. But we will never know now. Gillard, once she lost her leadership, left politics. What evidence have you that she was a “corporate toady”? She wasn’t perceived that way. Rudd came to power in 2007 backed by Murdoch in no small part due to his fiscal policies. Rudd was a member of Labor Right. Gillard was Labor Left. Surprise, surprise, by the next election Murdoch had changed his mind. You may not like Julia Gillard for what she did to Kevin Rudd. But it’s clear to most that Rudd gave at least as good as he got between 2010 and 2013. As for her being a sell out, I can’t think what you would be referring to.

Just an observation. Rudd & Craig Murray UK and some of these US former Diplomats who speak up about faulty paths being undertaken are truly admired & have such high intellect, knowledge. Some individuals just see them as adversary against personal intentions of power it seems.

I loved seeing Kevin expertly dismantling all the BS questions thrown his way from the Murdoch Gang. You can see the nervousness on their face knowing that their whole line of logic is about to be torn to shreds. Those parts were particularly entertaining
