I'd been living in the Maldives from 1996 to 2005. Strikingly, new islands do emerge, naturally just in the middle of the Sea! So it's no big deal. I guess the Maldives is doing well. Nature would rebuild itself after a while there.

The issue this video is highlighting isn't the impact of resorts being built at the cost of the environment but how it's affecting those that live there. It's a very simple and privileged perspective to flippantly say "it's no big deal" when evidently you're not being remotely affected by the local displacement this construction influx is causing. Even if islands popped out of the sea as rapidly as you seem to believe it wouldn't provide some utopian refuge that local residents could teleport all of their belongings and families to safely. Even if that was viable, why should resorts replacing local residents to profit offshore investors and government officials be justified when it does no good for anyone other than the rich?

Aren't there commercial palm trees plantations in the islands? Are those trees being uprooted from "wild" areas?

Wouldn't digging up seabeds to make islands for tourism's make it more likely other islands to flood apparently one reason that Venice florida is because a channel was dug in the seabed to gets cruise ships in increasing capacity therefore increasing the volume of water to then flood Venice. Does anybody know if this is likely

Simply grow the trees. Very easy to grow from coconuts. People don't grow. That is the problem.

They do it. But its actually illegal to transport big trees. All thanks to the corrupt leaders of the country

These are small coral atolls - the palm trees mature slowly & decades old and shouldn’t be turned into agricultural. They are destroying natural areas for the sake of aesthetics.

@@Contractor48 The basis of a true republic is that the government only serves the people. It exists ONLY to represent the nation as a unit and protect the nation. (Of course, keeping those in power to these limitations takes vigilance.) Still, this setup provides the most freedom and safety for the people.

Maldives authorities should limit the construction of resorts. In a few years maldives will be wipe out of the map, cause of the rising sea levels. That should be the main concern of their government not the building of resorts.
