In 1988 it was not a Tamil group who came to Maldives to take over the country but a Coup detat led by a Maldivian businessman who was helped by a Sri Lankan Tamil separatist mercenary group to take over the country. At the request of then Maldivian President, Indian military was brought in, which successfully thwarted this attempt and the mercenaries were killed or chased away. The masterminds were caught & handed over to the Maldivian Authorities. It was not the Maldivian military which repelled these attacks. It was too small & ill equipped anyway.

It is like saying a Muslim group was responsible for 9/11 attack on twin towers in US rather than Islamist terrorist group. Also, like saying a Sinhala group was responsible for 1983 Tamil riots in Sri Lanka rather than a group of Sinhalese racist politicians.

@@cssuntherrao It WAS a Muslim group that was behind 9/11 and groups Sinhalese DID carry out July 83 riots. So those statements are actually correct. Whether you want to add more adjective or qualifiers is a matter of opinion and choice. By not adding them it doesn't make the original statement false or less accurate.

@@LazRanasinghe Adjectives & details are very important because it prevents a stigma being attached to or a general impression being projected about a community and it dies make a difference. It is certain mischievous groups & elements in a community that are responsible for these misdeamenours & this should not be a blot on the community as a whole.

What I'm saying is that not adding those additional words will not make the underlying statement less accurate or false. It will continue to be accurate regardless. Since you haven't directly addressed that point or shown that what I said is incorrect, I assume that you at least accept that much. If that's the case, I have nothing else to add because I believe that I have made my point very clear. Unless you have a valid argument that without those additional adjectives and qualifiers, the original statement would be false, I believe we can close this friendly discussion because if not we'll be just going around in circles.
