Maldives Scuba Diving on Emperor Explorer Liveaboard in 4k HDR

Great video, Daniel! I watched it several times, enjoying superb quality of footage. It looks like you are achieving very good results with your new camera. Also, I have a special interest in this video, as I am planning a similar trip to Maldives on Emperor Infinity, but slightly different itinerary: Deep South in mid of January. As this will me our first trip to Maldive and first trip since Covid, could you share any special Covid-related travel tips to Maldives? How did you fly over there? Thank you very much Val 🙏🏼 The deep south is my favourite itinerary, especially if Fuvamulah is visited too (to see the Tiger Sharks). I find the channel diving fantastic, and the inner reefs are incredible as they are almost untouched. Somehow I also find the green sea turtle shells there, the best I've seen. Most of the footage from this video was taken in the deep south areas:- kzbin.info/www/bejne/e37SY3WEfLSpsJo And this particular clip shows what the shark life can be like:- kzbin.info/www/bejne/opmbqmqPj9GssKc One person was Covid positive on the Emperor Explorer, and the whole boat had to be shipped off via Dhoani to a quarantine Island (not as nice as it sounds it might be), and we had to quarantine for 14 days minimum (some were on the island for almost 4 weeks! Everyone was okay, and got home eventually. I think you know Juan? Fantastic choice! You won’t be disappointed! It’s a big piece of kit with the WACP-1, but the results and usable aperture range are well worth it. Yes the camera works very well in SLOG3 with a native ISO of 12,800. I prefer to shoot in HDR HLG2 which is native 800/1600 but the broader colour range of BT.2020 is worth the compromise in my opinion. Good luck with the setup 👍🏼 👌🏼

Very nice video, great to see the variety of wide, medium and close angles you can get out of the WACP1 with the same lens. Been saving up a very long time for this and I'm close now.

It’s a big and heavy piece of kit out of the water… but incredible to use beneath the surface! I’d recommend a buoyancy float ring for macro lenses the ones with the velco (in addition to the WACP-1 buoyancy collar) as it fits well between the housing and the WACP-1 and you can fine tune the buoyancy to perfection. Pleased you enjoyed the video and hope it helped you to take the plunge and invest 😊👌🏼

Thank you - no I don't use a tripod... All the footage is handheld, using the camera stabilisation, and some further stabilisation in post production.

Which output firmst do you use for KZbin, so you do not convert it to rec709? Thanks

All files are wide gamut HDR in BT2020 colour space. I export them as master files from Final Cut Pro, and KZbin does a great job of either displaying the content in HDR on compatible screens or converts to rec709 for non HDR screens. Hope that's of use.

Hi Eran, No I record in BT.2020 which is true HDR. With custom white balance before each shot and correct lighting, there is no real need to do much in the way of grading. Hope that helps.

@@eransalah8844 I set the exposure zebras on the camera for 95%, and just adjust ISO / Fstop to suit ambient lighting conditions without introducing zebras on screen. Then in FCPX you can use the Luna saturation setting to check in post.

HDR HLG2 is the picture profile I use, as it’s the best balanced HLG in my opinion. ISO anywhere around 400-1600 depending on light conditions and aperture. HLG2 has MAX 800/1600 native, but you can push the camera higher without too much additional noise - unlike using SLOG3 on this camera.
