I might be wrong but the male characters that are in the game are quite cool and badass. You're right they're few and far in between but we might get some nice male 4stars they haven't shown yet to even it a bit more towards the 3:5 ratio they said before release but might be a classic case of money speaks so 1:3 sounds more realistic but I think that's fine as long as they're not an afterthought *definitely if lumi is their future 4star standard tho I doubt that as they're probably just a way of testing stuff* just checked pgr their other game and from what I could see they had 12:32 male female ratio so that's about 1/3 which feels acceptable considering the risk/reward and I think scar being playable in 3.0 or after we've seen more of him in the story sounds reasonable

Very good point. Also, a slightly better ratio is enough to retain and maybe even potentially attract more of an already growing part of the audience that wants more male characters. Too bad they don't see the potential of this being a way to keep both sides happy with just a little adjustment.

I sometimes lurk on social media and I’ve seen many people not supporting the game due to the lack of male characters. It’s really sad because many people have spent money, only for them to quit due to them being under the belief that Kuro is ignoring their consistent feedback :(
@doedoel0352 күн бұрын
I can't think of a single con of having more male character in the game. Having more male character can not only balance the ratio, but can also give more depth to the game's story, which is much needed. Sure, you can argue about "the ole gacha tradition of having waifoos only" but like, is that what we need right now? I thought Kuro's speciality is breaking the mold, not the opposite.

The creators think that they need to make a lot of female characters because they see positive statistics on their banners. But the thing is that in Genshin and Wuwa there are basically fewer useful male characters than useful female characters. I don’t like either Furina or Nahida at all, but I bought them because they are healthy. If there were male equivalents in games, I would buy them.

make male characters have long life span before getting powercreep. with that, even waifu enjoyers will have a reason to pull for or play that male character. female characters tendency always like between 5 released, 1 is actually crazy, the other 2 is great, and the others are just fillers. if they make the male characters as crazy as this one particular female character, then even though we only get 2 male every region. those male characters will be irreplaceable. for example, think of a male version of jinhsi. deal huge damage, but also able to buff the team stats. a leader of the region of something, with an actual good written background that explains how and why the guy is so powerful.

Jiyan and Calcharo were cool male characters with a lot of fans. Big muscular male characters that I think appealed to a good number of both men and women. Xiangli Yao and Brant, the two confirmed male characters from after 1.0, are of a softer looking male archtype, which I'm sure has its own fans, but they feel more like typical gacha male designs rather than the designs that made WuWa stand out. Presumably Geshu Lin and Scar will be coming eventually, which will give us at least two more muscular male characters, but those are both characters whose designs were around from before release. I wonder if this is an indication of the direction that WuWa is going in with their male characters, or if its just a case of there not being enough data because they haven't released enough yet to see any patterns. Considering that the MC doesn't have a canonical gender, I would personally find it really funny if Brant went fully into the flirty pirate stereotype and got added to the MC's harem. I'm not a fan of the harem side of things in general, but I think my issue with it is mostly just that it's so predictable, so having an unexpected character get involved would at least make it more interesting on that front. (I'm clearly not the target audience for these games; why do I even play gacha?)

I need more husbandos so I can get breaks to save for future banners but fr though, there's nothing wrong with adding more males in these limited banner gachas. He can't ruin your waifu pulls and you don't have to acknowledge his presence when the banner is gone. Kuro released their game with men which set the expectation that there will be more down the line. If you don't want to release men, just make a waifu-only game.
@Lio-t4o4 күн бұрын
you never know what those waifu-only players will do if you arbitrarily add more male characters to their favorite game. Even a simple post about asking for a male character will gather so many hate comments. I do agree that a balance or maybe a bigger ratio from the current one (no need to surpass the female chara ratio) is enough, but the Gacha community is just that scary, specifically adhering to that specific demography of players.

So gacha companies face a tough choice: - do whatever their creative vision suggests, aim for general non-gooner audience and get threats from deranged individuals - be forced to make endless harem slop and give up on any hope of breaking through the normie barrier and gaining wide recognition(and still receive backlash if they slip up and do something this audience doesn't quite like) Honestly, these weirdos who go so far as harassing and doxing the employees should be handled legally. What they do is literally a crime, and legal systems should catch up to it already.

Idk the more I play, the more I'm convinced that Jiyan's first banner was nothing but bait for us male enjoyers 'cuz they've just released a bunch of girls afterwards and the one other male we got not only was free but was yet another DPS which means that his lifespan is mostly non existent as far as powercreep in gacha games goes I don't have anything wrong with girls and I do like to play as them too but we're reaching a point where most them feel boring and repetitive imo If they had introduced this game as a "waifu collector" I wouldn't have had any problem with any of this but they didn't and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth 'cuz I feel like they've just baited us with the fake promise of a more balanced male to female character ratio So yeah WuWa really is a great game and I absolutely love the gameplay but I just could never make it my main one when HSR gives me everything I've been asking for from a gacha game as far as male to female ratio is concerned

I would love to see more male characters especially with how they've all been designed so far. If I had to pick between Jiyan, Calcharo, Xiangli Yao, Scar, Geshu Lin, Yhan (the NPC guy) and all the females in the game right now, only Yinlin and Lumi would stand a chance against any of them for my pulls. And that's not a slight to any of the roster, I think they're all pretty incredible in their own style, it's just how much more interested I am in the designs of those male characters. There is a large audience among males that love the male characters as well. I think honestly, even in CN, the people that get insecure about male characters are a minority, just a vocal and mentally unstable one. Ultimately, though, I think it's story and gameplay that are taking precedent on release windows. We'll see what happens with 2.0 but I doubt it's as simple as "waifu simulator" when they have to know the excitement they've built around the males I mentioned and how popular, and well done, they are in PGR.
@Hesperus_4 күн бұрын
I feel like there have been a lot of arguments about these games being made or men, so there shouldn't be more male chars. But men indeed can enjoy playing badassl male characters too. It doesn't all have to be gooner stuff. And as well-written as male characters in PGR are, their variants still release pretty rarely. After Watanabe it will be waifu fest for quite some time. But males in PGR don't seem forgotten because they appear in the story pretty regularly. I wish they gave more screen time to the guys in Wuwa too. They can't make such amazing male designs and then withhold them forever

@@Hesperus_ True dat. They've gotta be planning something with those characters. Great to see a video addressing this issue. It really upsets me to be told so often to play another game or that 'it's just the way it is' or 'it caters to the male player base only'. Kinda makes me feel like a second-rate citizen. I'm good at the game - I love the open world and the high intensity combat - have cleared all content - I don't want to play another game - I like this one! My only criticism is the lack of male units. Jiyan is GREAT - Calcharo looks great but is a standard character who's gameplay is 'clunky' and Xangli Yao is just ok design-wise and for a freebie (but is super strong gameplay wise). All i'm hoping for, is that Geshu Lin appears soon - and would also be great to see Scar. Don't get me wrong... the females are well designed and I like most of them... but the ratio is so severely unbalanced now - it's just weird. I would like to play as a strong male - and (being honest) want to have something good to look at - Jiyan's great but a change would be good. Brant coming up is a good thing... but so many male wanters probably have loads of astrite saved up so won't have to spend for him... or people will skip him due to Zani being released after (who looks great). Think the only way Kuro are gonna see that people want males is if we spend for them... but they're not releasing enough for us to do that or making the competition too fierce around them. Jiyan was first banner... no-one had to spend there either as so many free asterite at start of game. Sorry for the rant - I just feel v strongly about this issue.

I honestly think it's the matter of character effectiveness. I can only speak from arknights point of view, since I've never played star rail and dropped genshin after a few months. Many of top tier characters, that are still being used years later, are males. They also have lots of skins too. It may be one of key factors for male gamers to pull husbandos over waifus. However, the style and presentation are also importnant. For me, all of genshin males are either teenagers or twinks. It was nice to see in wuva the diversity of males, from teens to actual adults, but it feels that wuva is getting trapped in typical waifu collectathon. I'd like for modern gacha games to have some gruff males, without looking like a k-pop star. Make them, older, more battle hardenned, give em a beard, but still keep the overall artstyle. I'm really curious how Endfield will pull males, hope they'll get it right.

Gender does play a part whether I would start playing a game. I would definitely not even consider playing if the game only focuses on ONE gender, like Love and Deepspace or Azur Promilia, even if they can be great games. Something deep down within me just can't accept catering to only one gender. Personally, I do prefer games with a more balanced gender ratio. Although it is understandable that there may be slightly more female characters. As long as the gender ratio is not too absurd, like having only 1 male limited character per year (Tower of Fantasy), I'm probably fine with that. Having at least 3 limited male characters per year seems to be a good "minimum" to me. But as for whether I would pull for a character, gender does not matter at all. Call me a meta slave, but I only care about their gameplay kits. Strength (Ceiling potential, both from potential supports and dupes like S6/C6), Fun/Satisfying to play. These 2 are the only criteria I can think of off the top of my head to decide if I want a character. If a character is top tier and unmatched in both criteria, I would even overlook on their "looks" and pull even if the character looks like Davy Jones. Of course, even though I mentioned strength, I do not like or support powercreep. And this is one thing I like about wuwa SO FAR. And I hope it continues. It's okay to have a new character become the "strongest" once in a while, it's okay to have similar strength (kinda wuwa's case), but if it is an obvious powercreep (with HP inflated enemies) to the point that newer characters are very likely be stronger every patch (like HSR/ToF, maybe Genshin these few patches), I'd drop the game if there are other options (especially now with more upcoming titles like Endfield/NTE/Ananta).

I play both characters but prefer men, partly as a woman myself and partly because they are so rare. If game has only female characters it is clearly not made for a wider player base, mostly straight men. They are not for me so I don’t even try them. The gooners can happily keep those. What I dislike is when game starts more equal and then mostly just release waifus. Genshin has been a big disappointment for over a year. It feels deceiving to suddenly turn into a HI3rd. Wuthering Waves has been stingy but they have released more male 5stars this year than GI. I don’t mind waiting but don’t expect the banner to make money if you give us months to save between male characters. Overall it still somewhat feels like the men are a just sprinkled over a waifu game. Especially when the if they make the story mostly about the newest female characters swooning over the Rover. But I have hopes for the future. HSR has been the best game but they aren’t perfect either. At least Sunday got same attention as they usually reserve for the ladies :)

I think the issue lies in the fact that... no one really knows HOW to write a GOOD male character. And the struggles are basically the same. Dude is has low confidence/skill/self esteem, dude goes through training arc, dude git gud. At least that's what I see happening in shounen mangas.
@Hesperus_Күн бұрын
There have been pretty interesting male chars, although it's of course subjective depending on your story preferences. But I'd say full shounen characters are not suited for limited gacha characters, because they require a long personal growth period, and gacha chars don't get to have this much screen time

question is, how % of those 45% of woman are buying ? How much they are spending in the game? Devs know their audience, and know what they need to do to keep the spenders pleased. I myself don't spend anything in some games and other games i spend a little, so i'm the leech gamer and they don't make content for me , i will just enjoy what i got for free , i know they aim whales and they will please whales and doesn't matter what i want money will make the final decision. A game with no male characters or female focused fanservice irritates me far less than a game that half-asses it like WuWa has done so far. If they were going to drop any attempt to appeal to the portion of the audience that enjoys that kind of thing immediately after pushing Scar and Jiyan so hard in the early chapters, I really wish they wouldn't have bothered. I would far prefer playing something like Nikke or Love and Deepspace that fully commits to what they're doing even if it can come off as cringey, because that's better than feeling like an afterthought. Dollars to Donuts Brant is going to be completely inconsequential to the story and all the focus will go to Zani and the blonde chick.
