They banned tobacco with a "sharing" argument but we witnessed 4 people sharing a court of beer in a car as soon as it was bought on Monday. DRIVER included. Did we miss something? People are going to die on the roads not because of the Covid virus but because of drunk drivers which we all know become irresponsible when intoxicated. Since when have cigarettes lead to domestic abuse? Alcohol is one of the root causes of domestic abuse. Whatever Malema is saying, is anyone’s guess. He contradicts himself and is not in touch with reality. The current regulations strengthen the small businesses that are selling on the black market. Their client base has grown and will, to a large extent, remain loyal to them after the ban is lifted.

Whether or not alcohol and tobacco is bad for your health or not is beside the point. This is a matter of basic freedom and general rights as a free citizen. People have the right to choose for themselves whether or not they want to purchase alcohol or tobacco products for themselves. No one not even government has the right to tell you what you can and cannot spend your own money on . So long as they are legal. And under general circumstances alcohol and tobacco products are legal to purchase for persons 18 years old and older in South Africa.

There's no scientific argument needed Julius, just basic respect of citizens rights. Here we have one person who impose her personal value system on a nation, by force. Never can a non smoker ever relate to a smoker. It's an addiction, you cannot cold turkey any addiction without proper processes. Has this woman ever consulted with rehabs to find out what implications there would be on people. Nobody has the right to do that to anybody. It is inhumane and cruel. Cigarettes is a health risk. The evidence is there. All packets have a warning on it. Not only for the smoker but also for those around them. I agree cigarettes should not be banned cause everyone has freedom of choice. But just like dagga people should smoke at their homes and not in public.
