From what I notice during my fight with Mogh. For Mogh he has to stack blood damage on you for his Nihilist to do any actual damage. If you don’t have any of the stacks it does less damage and has to build up blood damage.

This is mainly due to Morgott rejecting his Omen Heritage, especially holding out on it until Phase 2 in our fight. Even then he is still holding it back. If he didn't he would be more similar to Mohg with the Bloodflame, maybe making his golden construct weapons Bloodflame.

​@@diousthomas8878 You have it backwards. Bloodflame is not an omen power, it's from the Formless Mother. Bloodflame spells and abilities involve the character stabbing or cutting something invisible, like Mohg does when using bloodboon and bloodflame talons. Morgott and omen mobs do not do this, only Mohg. Actual omen powers are golden and do holy damage. This is stuff like the explosions you see when Morgott transitions to phase 2, and the holy breath and homing projectiles the omen mobs and the Dung Eater can fire. Mohg is the one who makes no use of them, he uses his gifted bloodflame abilities only.

You need to physically attack her to get her into the 2nd phase. It is most likely due to the cutscene, as we have seen mods where she can phase transition but she appears as a different character and not exactly through transition or transformation much like Maliketh.

It’s because they patched it so you can’t kill her without a physical attack. Because if you did before it would instantly kill her second phase. So instead of fixing it so it doesn’t happen they just made her immune to dying from status effects

It's mostly cause she was bugged before that would cause an instant death in P2, however even then that doesn't fix much because she's, or at least was hella buggy when I fought her on release. If you staggered her and riposte killed her P1 she wouldn't go into P2 and then she would just become immortal no matter how many times you hit her she wouldn't go into P2, so you had to let her hit you to heal to then trigger the AI to realize she's actually still alive and can be put to P2 after another hit. Problem was, when she was stuck at 0hp she really loved using waterflow and just end your run even tho you beat her P1. Fun times... Fuck I hated how many runs that happened to me.

@@kushjindal2939 I mean this video says it all. he barely survived when he was completely immune to rot but otherwose it's malenia all day. if she finds out where he is, she definitely can whoop his ass but he'll give her a run for her money unlike some other bosses. lore wise I don't know if there's anything to back any claim other than the fact that malenia and radahn are widely considered to be the strongest demigods, and there's nothing that talks about mohg in comparison to other demigods. Still, I think he's the sickest demigod.

Just needed 2 tries and because on the first one I had an stupid mistake (I 25 hp points so a mistake could make me die). But even now, that Im fighting Radagon, I wouldnt beat Malenia easily. Indeed, I dont even know If I could beat her again.

@@jolly5886 same here, I found the item early on and didn't realize what it was for, although even if I knew I wouldn't use it. I don't enjoy cheesing the fight, I want to struggle. The thing is Malenia was way easier for me because shes so easy to read and dodge. Arguably her first phase is way harder because she's passive and utilizes the waterflow way more than in P2. However, you get a lot of practice fighting her P1 so once you get a hang of it it's just a walk in the park, especially come second phase where she is aggressive and leaves herself open and easily punishable. Personally she's not even top 5 hardest boss in Elden Ring for me. 1. Mogh 2. Margit 3. Alecto 4. Godfrey/Horrah 5. Maliketh Even the Nox duo is way harder when you're doing it early on, you cant even approach them cause of how strongly they work together. It's probably my fav gang fight in the series, it is a shame most people find them later on and just brute force them with a lot of damage and health pool where their attacks might as well tickle, they were almost one shotting me, it was awesome! Radagon was also more troublesome than his daughter. Valiant Gargoyle's made me leave and come back later (only fight in the game to do that to me, I knew I was outmatched, but in general not harder than most fights) And dont get me started on Borealis and Deathrite bird in the Snowfields, Malenia's got nothing on them 😂 honestly, Idk where I would place her, I don't think she makes my top 10 😅

And since she just oneshot me with any of her attacks (not exagerating, the two slaps attack kills me, the front charge attack with the sword kills me, the grab kills me)... I definitly prefer Mogh. He is so weak. Still, I agree Malenia has a hard first phase and not that hard second phase. I cant tell who is the hardest boss since for me the most of them are horrible. I did not like Elden Ring in this matter. All has infinite stamina and combos, and all do oneshot me. But, I can give a list of easiers ones. Godskin Duo, Maliketh, Mogh and Loretta Sentinel. I do not give a number since all of them cost me 2 tries (normally surviving for 1 or 5hp and killing me for an stupid mistake). Except for Loretta sentinel, he cost me like 5 tries. Well, I could put Fortissax, but he was easy due to my level on that fight. I was literally about to face Radagon and then I found Fortissax quest haha.

I'd like to imagine that Miquella deliberately let Mohg into the Haligtree out of compassion. The Haligtree was described to be the promised land of marginalized races like Albinauric and Misbegotten (evidently there's a lot of them there) because Miquella created it with the vision of making it the better Erdtree, it might not be out of place to imagine Mohg pretended seeking refugees for the Omens at the tree when the Shattering broke out and Miquella naively let him in, not knowing his true intentions.

I would like to see Malenia vs Rennala, with Rennala scaled to Malenia's level. Because Rennala would try to keep her distance and almost all of Malenia's attacks are close range, especially the dreaded Scarlet Aeonia. I guess that Rennala would still be too slow in her attacks, but it would nonetheless be interesting to see (and maybe there is a way to give Rennala higher speed).

It's easy to put fingers on it. All the subsequent rounds were created with conditions that *either buffed Mohg or nerfed* Malenia See the six bosses battle Royale video by the same uploader. They were supposedly all scalled to NG+7 but Mohg was obviously buffed up further. 2100+ damage barely took 2% of his hp. Search up Mohg NG+7 unmodified and you'll see he doesn't even have 1/3 of what he's been buffed to in that battle royale video . Uploader is a Mogh fanboy. In reality Malenia would solo 3 Mohgs unless Mohg was heavily buffed and modded beyond what the game gave him. Malenia in a nutshell; the only one close to her skill and ability was Radahn, who quite literally held the stars in place like an Atlas figure, and even then, she made the conscious decision to annihilate him AND the surrounding area; and while Radahn remains imposing, he's hardly more than a shell of his former self. It may not be a complete win for her, as she didn't want to go nuclear, but she still walked away physically, even if her pride and honor wasn't intact.

Poor guy doesn’t even have feet anymore, while Malenia eventually pretty much recovered. Still, both of them are the two coolest characters imo, followed by Placidusax. Both their lore and animations are so good.

The Omen win's early boss fights are portrayed as them possessing and manifesting through them, so I think Mohg got to the Haligtree by possessing one of Miquella's soldiers. Of course, that doesn't explain how he was then able to get out with Miquella.

@@Xolcm Lore wise Mohg is an unofficial consort to a God, and the Haligtree in an incredibly remote and secret location. Pretty much their entire fighting force of Cleanrot Knights were in Caelid and the ones who stayed wouldn't know they had a portal in the Snowfield and knew how to reach them. Imo Mohg would have very little trouble outright invading a lightly guarded, unprepared Haligtree especially if he brought help. The regular soldiers would have basically no chance in hell of standing against a full demigod.

@@leiderhosen7110 It's never actually stated or implied when Mohg kidnapped Miquella in relation to Malenia's expedition to Caelid. Certainly that expedition would have given him the best opportunity for it... but then again, the most lore-consistent motivation for Malenia to attack Caelid in the first place is to recover Miquella, Mohg's palace being right under Caelid. In the first place, _Mohg has wings._ The Haligtree is impregnable by "land," but it is open to the elements, even straight down to Miquella's chambers. It's just as likely that Mohg just plain flew in, grabbed Miquella when Malenia wasn't looking, and flew out. Then she found out a couple hours later, tracked him down to Caelid, and Radahn interpreted it as an attack (or Malenia assumed he was helping Mohg) and the whole war between them ensued.

They did 4 fights, 2 of which she won, 1 of which was a draw (They both died tho Malenia went like two seconds before Maliketh followed) and 1 that Maliketh won. Even if you wanna give the draw to Maliketh that's still 50% Malenia win rate, or if you wanna contribute the draw as a half win each (25% per win, 12.5% per draw) that's a 62.5% victory ratio for Malenia as opposed to the 37.5% for Maliketh

My biggest problem with Mohg is due to how massive the game's input buffer is, if you mistime your dodge too late on Mohg's basic 2-hit spear sweep, you eat the first hit, then the buffer causes you to dodge as soon as hit-stun wears off which guarantees you eat the second hit. You eat 2 chunky hits all due to one mis-timed button press. Honestly not a Mohg problem, but a games systems design problem. It definitely soured the experience my first playthrough fighting him though

@@Arclor That's Elden Ring's issue for a lot bosses. Couple that with bosses that have essentially input reading and some who have movesets that are designed to fake you into roll spamming one moment by using year long wind ups, then follow up with a barrage of lighter attacks *cough* Margit *cough*, you have an issue. I'm not gonna say ER is poorly designed, but there's a few liberties they took that feels cheesy at best and a bit unfair at worst at times. Biggest example is Malenia's waterfowl attack. All of her moves are dodgable, but her waterfowl is only dodgable if you pull off what is essentially just AI manipulation, which isn't how a boss should be fought.

It gave us many good memories as DS1-3 and Elden Ring, but for future releases, I hope they use freshly made frame data, new mechanics, and a different tempo with their in-house game engine. It's a good engine, but they can definitely do better than DS3 as a gameplay skeleton.

I mean she is literally scaled far beyond any other boss and features such fun advantages as: -an enormous combined hp pool -the ability to heal that enormous hp pool -insane damage -a busted status effect -a guaranteed nuke after phase change Yeah she arguably works fine against a player but bosses aren't designed to evade the scarlet bloom or waterfowl dance so they just stand there while she evaporates their health and heals her own. Scaling them up to account for that is fair because they are not even remotely intended to be able to deal with such attacks.

“You will witness true horror.” - Malenia “Wait until I show you what I’ve done with Miquella!” - Mohg Malenia lashes out in anger and dive bombs with another Scarlet Aeonia and engulfs him with Scarlet Rot, weakening him but he gets out of it as fast as he can, throwing blood in the flower. Malenia dodges the blood and flies up in the air to descend on Mohg with a waterfowl, but the Lord of Blood managed to fly out of distance of the first attack. Malenia leaps upwards to continue her assault as Mohg throws more blood, evading the Scarlet Valkyrie more. Jet black feathers and Scarlet Aeonian butterflies are littered about the room as the two demigods fight in the skies, with bloodflame littering the ground. They land on solid ground once more and Mohg swings his trident, splashing blood towards Malenia’s direction, as the goddess leaps over the spear and lunges towards the Blood Lord, plunging her blade into the demigod. Before Mohg can throw her off, Malenia jumps off of him, ripping her sword out and slicing as she escapes. Mohg grimaced in pain but he takes the blood from his chest, and reaches up to throw his blood and the unseen goddess’s blood towards the Valkyrie. She dodges the blood but gets whacked by Mohg’s trident after being tricked, knocking off her prosthetic. She grits her teeth and dodges a slam by Mohg, grabs her sword with her good arm, and leaps up away from the Lord of Blood, sending down copies of herself, inflicting Scarlet Rot with every hit. Mohg whacks one away but it disappears into dozens of butterflies. He leaps away and flies towards Malenia, trying to avoid the assault, whacking away the doubles as best he can to close distance. He swats away one last double before closing the gap, and as he’s getting ready to impale her with his trident, Malenia lunges towards him at breakneck speed, impaling him through the chest, wincing in pain. She then goes to forcibly pull up her blade and slide it through flesh, evading another hit by the Lord of Blood as she jumps on her adversary’s head, ripping out her blade and cutting off a chunk of Mohg’s wings, sending him falling fast. He lands in the shallow puddle with a loud splash, breathing weakly and tiredly. Malenia returns to the ground gracefully and takes a moment to catch her breath, trying not to focus on the prospect of her brother being tortured. But to kill the man responsible. “He’s mine now…” Mohg growls back, weakly. “He’ll always be mine…” Malenia rises to her feet again, her arm trembling with anger, gripping the blade as hard as she can, slowly walking towards the babbling madman, still feeling the effects of the Rot. “You can’t stop… the coming…of our… dynasty!” Before Mohg can finish, she slices his throat and jams her sword into his head with fury. The Lord of Blood reaches upwards before death overtakes him, and the light in his eye begins to fade. Malenia leaves the sword in his head and wobbles away from the corpse, now free to be alone with her thoughts and to rest, collapsing to the ground in anguish, shouting Miquella’s name as loud as she can. Grief stricken and remorseful that she couldn’t accomplish what she had set out to do.

I don't know if I'd call her the most bs boss. While her health regen on damage and waterfowl effectively ending fights if you get caught, she staggers so easily compared to other bosses. Its part of what I like about her fight so much, its a little like fighting another player in terms of mechanics, but without the weirdness of latency. It feels like your on much more even ground (even though you obviously aren't.) Its the same reason I love the Maria fight in the Bloodborne DLC. That Malenia can't just trade hits with smaller sized player equipment is refreshing.

I believe Rykard is the same as Godrick, except his trick to getting stronger worked better until the giant Snake consumed him, but he in turn consumed the Snake. The Snake is probably the only thing that can easily kill any of the Gods, which means that Rykard essentially became the strongest once he became one with the Snake. Unfortunately for him, the Snake had a kryptonite that any of the other Gods could've easily exploited the same way the Tarnished did. Thus making the fight against Rykard the easiest.

This got me thinking: Considering there's one of Malenia's Rot Blooms earlier in Elphael, maybe Mohg actually did fight and "kill" her, and, knowing of her powers, booked it to get Miquella and get out before she could get back up. He seems capable of reliably triggering Phase 2, after all. I know in our case she transforms within seconds, but maybe that's because it was the third and final transformation, and any of the others took time. It is stated in the lore that after she unleashed the Scarlet Aeonia in Caelid, she was left catatonic for so long that Finlay had to carry her through all the Lands Between back to Elphael. So maybe the Aeonias themselves are just an "on-death" reaction, like, say, the Soldjars blowing up when you kill them, and it's only upon the third time that she was immediately reanimated? Meaning all Mohg had to do was kill her once, which, again, he can do reliably, then tank the Scarlet Aeonia (which, if it _was_ the first time she did it, might have been a surprise, but his contract with an Outer God may have helped him resist it, on top of his bloodflames purging it), then get to Miquella fast enough before she could revive (though he might not know she can).

That bloom in elphael is highly unlikely to be Malenia's. Her first bloom is said to be in Caelid by a ghost npc near swamp of aeonia. People in elphael do not have a clue what happened to Miquella, he just disappeared all of a sudden. Mohg managed to somehow sneak in and kidnap miquella. Besides, it is very clear that Mohg was too chicken to face Malenia alone because she would cut him apart. There's a reason why he had to sneak in and do the kidnapping. Malenia and Radahn were 2 of the mightiest demigods. I don't see how Mohg beats her.

First of all, it is directly stated that Malenia would only assume the title and powers of the Goddess of Rot after her third blooming, which fits in with our fight against her and her subsequent power boost. There may have been more daughters we have not heard of, but I find it an unlikely prospect.
