Russia never colonised African countries because they were busy colonising East European and central caucasian countries like Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, etc. Remember the USSR? They also invaded Afghanistan and instigated many rebellions in Africa, commonly referred to as terrorism. It is naive to think Russia will support any country with weapons, money etc without wanting something in return. That something is terrirorial dominance and most importantly minerals with kickbacks for corrupt government official. No Africa country involved with Russia, China or Cuba ever prospered afterwards.

Russia was to busy invading and colonising other countries. Does the USSR ring a bell. They instigated unrest in Africa as part of the cold war but never do anything for nothing. What they want is territorial dominance for their ideology and minerals as pay back. No African country that dealt with Russia, China or Cuba ever prospered. To say Russia colonized is not a fair comparison it is not in the same way as Europeans who use superiority, segregation and exploitation. Principles of socialism is to share everything, so all the people under the USSR each got their fair parcel, equal distribution, not like European taking all the wealth for them and leaving the exploited countries without even basic food. I don't support Marxism, (perhaps the pure form of socialism is where we can find an answer) but there's a huge difference in the things you are saying they're the same. They're not. Also USSR is long passed, it's under new leadership. Talk with Chechen and people, see if they are not happy and in full support of Putin.
