I’ve just recently discovered the utterly mesmerising sound of Bulgarian Folk Singing - nothing I’ve heard before comes close to it. Never before have I witnessed such history, pain, pride, love and melancholy projected with such resonance from human voices. And, even though I don’t know even a single word of this beautiful language, the feeling of the song, it’s story is apparent; it transcends language. Admiration and respects from England.

The song captures the purity of the feelings of a maiden who carries so much love in her heart, even without having encountered love yet. It's a dream and longing to experience something incomparable. Here is a translation :) A little maiden prays to God above: "Grant me, Lord, eyes of azure love. Grant me, God, wings of falcon soar, To fly beyond the Danube's snowy shore. To find a lad who's just for me. God heard her plea, Gave her eyes of azure, bright, And wings of falcon's flight. Thus granted wings of falcon, strong and free, She found her lad, as she wished him to be. Dear God..

I learned this song from the movie "Hummingbird(Redemption)" starring Jason Statham. I couldn't stop crying because of the beauty of this song that played as an insert song. I think this song is the pride of Bulgaria. Thank you for the beautiful song. from Japan.

We Balkans always have had a mysterious relationship. We've been through terrible wars, killed each other, tried to justify our actions over and over again. We Balkans, are rare species. I grew up between the borders of three countries, Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey and let me tell you one thing...We are beautiful in our own way. Not everyone will understand this comment, but a few of you will. Living in this area is an exceptional experience, I came to the realization that we have way much more in common than we think. I've always considered myself Greek, then a Balkan, and lastly a European. Very proud for our extraordinarily deep history, lifestyle, and human relations. Once again not everyone will understand what I'm saying, but for those who do, I love you neighbors!

I understend perfectly what you mean.Here...in the Balkans have more than we know from oficial history.Much more....and hidden also.Doesent matter who things that hi is first here, second or more.TOO MUCH NEW FACTS HAVE now, soon we knows the true. One of the true is that we are all from Balkan area till the greatest flood.Next we go everywhere. The name that we used to call each other are different, but the genetically 80% we are one nation.....

Yes brother we share a lot of similarities, not only just looks, but our languages are similar, our cultures, our Christian religion combines us, and our music, we have been through a lot of wars not only between us balkan which is the worst thing, but also from other non balkan countries, i hope that we could maybe just maybe be all one nation and one country, and through history i think we were one nation💪

Calling you back to your senses, lifting your spirit up, feeding and nurturing your soul while giving you a connection to mother Earth. Zdrasti, Stasi. I have had the priviledge of working and living in BLG for over two years. Paying respect to your country I decided to learn the language, and I did, sure not to any perfect level, but enough to speak, listen, laugh, understand, and therefore enjoy also your movies, books, debates on TV or radio, and above all, the music. I can tell that the Bulgarian music is one of the best of the world, for the reason you named - the history, that is carried deep inside, still. People also still dance national dances, still celebrate historical events with real understanding, and still cherish the spiritual part of the inheritage. I remember the day I found Malka moma song for the first time. The version from the seventies I believe it was, but I found myself breathless. I totally love this song. And have no words to describe it while I understand every word of it, because for me it goes beyond the lyrics and beyond the notes. It goes from the history to the future, from the Earth to the Universe, from the Man to the Lord... Thank you, Bulgaria, for giving this song to the world! And thank you for your words, so much so well said.

+Jaime B That's weird. Just as it started I was thinking "This would be great music for a movie".

+HumanoidOrganism I love this sonfg; but your pic took me back to my late teens in the seventies, THE 1970's NOT 1870'S. I wonder WHY?

The Exorcist came out in 1973. I was born in 1962 so I was only about 11 when it came out. This image was flashed subliminally and was designed, I assume, to be striking. I just wanted to choose something that stood out. You won't believe how many people comment on it and say it freaks them out. They are just the people who contact me! All that aside, I love Bulgarian choral music. Even Kate Bush used Trio Bulgarka on one of her albums. Thanks for the comment.

This version of Malka Moma with Neli Andreeva is the best one , for me anyway. Everything is just perfect. Only one problem = it's too short, I need more :-) Let's play it again ... simply celestial !
