I am continuing my series of mall muzak and also continuing videos set in the 1950s. I hope you all enjoy this video! (I don't own any of the images or the muzak in this video) Credit goes to Muzak Orchestra.

I was born in 1959 in rural Texas. Had no idea there were malls back then😂 Saw my first one as a teen on vacation. Then in the mid 70s our lil town got one and I was a teenager and we spent so much time there. Fun memories!❤

I was born in the 70's, we did not have malls in UK back then either. We had shopping centres, which were how I imagine Guantanamo Bay, but with shops selling cheap tat. And of course Muzak.

I would normally take music sans the reverb. But it's appropriate here, since the reverb gives the scenes an ambience of unintrusiveness..."yes, shopping here is a part of your life..."

When we were teens we would sinker at this music and call it “elevator music.” Now it brings me so much solace in a very disturbing world. Thanks. It’s wonderful.

Agreed. The spirit in that age was totally different than the spirit of this modern world.

Reminds me of how stores and the music in the stores played as late as the early 70s in some places. The nostalgia is very welcome in today's current world. Thank you for this!

Is this actual Muzak from 1959, or a contemporary reinterpretation of it?

Nice to see a few places I recognize: 5:00 - the (two-story) Woolworths at Yorktown Mall (Lombard, IL - technically 1968); 16:00 - the center courtyard of Southdale Center (Edina, MN); 31:00 - the Marshall Field & Co anchor at Old Orchard Shopping Center (Skokie, IL).

ohdeargod....this crap is just as bad today as it was back in 1963 when either parent took us with them to "shop." Not only was this wafting over us as we went about shopping in stores, malls, etc., but it was also playing in larger grocery stores too. Chain grocery stores for the most part. I don't recall any sort of music playing the your smaller neighborhood mom/pop places. One of the many pluses for frequenting local mom/pop stores. (June 13, 2024)
